Vaccinated my yearling doe last week (in that terrible IL heat! yes... we had no choice)... Two sub-Q shots above her shoulder blade. She didn't flinch. For two to three days she was lethargic and had a poor appetite. Now she is back and eating up everything (thank Goodness) in sight!

Is this normal? Vaccination time always worries me...

She is perfect! Back to normal! Eating up a storm! Thank goodness the crazy temps of 100+ have subsided, and the rain came to cool us all off! Thanks for your good advice guys!

A good allergic reaction injection to give if they don't get better is 2 cc Dexamethsone im per 100 lbs combined with ReCover at same dosage.. God bless

The reaction you saw was from the EHD shot. If you would have taken the doe's temp, you would have found a low grade fever existed. It is my belief, that those deer that react this way to the EHD vaccine have a better chance of developin g some immunity to the strain that was used in the vaccine.

Thanks Scott. Last year, at 12 weeks, the doe fawn's reaction was exactly the same. I also knew this year, without taking the yearling doe's temp that she had a fever b/c her nose was not as wet as usual, and she slept a lot. Her breathing however was normal, her pellets perfect (although I noticed a bit of mucus) and her eyes were clear and she was drinking enough although much more slowly than usual. I worried that perhaps her glands might be swollen, and they did not seem to be too bad. Rosa is ok now, but I can still feel the lumps under her skin where I gave her the shots. I keep trying to rub them down, but it's slow going. It has been over a week now. Thanks Scott.

Dr. Clifford Shipley at the Univ. of Illinois sends out these EHD vaccines, and the Covexin-8 as well.
