I heard about Larry and a few other guys getting basically wiped out by EHD a few weeks ago. Feel very sorry for them for sure. Larry has been raising some great framey deer for years. It's also in Erie county and I would not be surprised to hear of more deaths before the first frost.

Very sorry for your loss guys.

It would certainly be nice if our state agencies worked as hard on finding a cure for EHD as they do on the "HIGHLY DEADLY CWD"

Sorry for everyones loss it is a terrible thing!

sorry for all your losses were treating with 2cc excede 2cc dexamethasone 2cc banamine working good for us down here good luck all

My friends daughter works for larry and up till three weeks ago they suspected clostridia cause this year he didnt lime his pens but sadly the deaths multiplied quickly and two test confirmed ehd, though I will say I know of no other farm in his area that has it, knock on wood!!

Hi Neeb,

Joe Hull called me and told me he lost all of his deer as well. Joe basically got out of the business a couple of years ago, but apparently he still had some deer at his Dad's place.

Thats sad Mike, dont know Mr hull , I feel for him and Larry! I do know there are about 3 guys very close to larry that dont have it yet!!! keeping fingers and toes crosses!

What a nasty stinking disease........it does amaze me how much money has been wasted on cwd ....and you have a devastating disease like this going around and it is completely ignored........what a world we live in! God help us!

It has hit hard in Oklahoma too.NADeFA has been sending delegations to the USAHA meetings for several years. The USAHA is the United States Animal Health Assoc. I have had the privilege to attend these confrences for the last 2 yrs . I can tell you first hand that they know that we are not ignorant and are organized. The CWD issue has somewhat disappeared. They talk about it but not as much as in the past. Blue tongue and EHD are topics and there are frequent lectures on both of these diseases.Blue tongue being the most spoke on,because of it effects sheep as well as deer.I have said this many times but support of NADeFA and your local organizations is crucial to being able to attend these functions.

I also would like to add our voice is being heard and they all know Shaun Schafer and he does work a room.If any of them have wildlife questions the consult w/ Shaun.

We will eventually cure this disease but it will take time and keeping involved in events such as the USAHA.We will be in Buffalo NY at the end of this month and I will report on what has transpired since last years meetings. It is also a place where we can get an update on the National CWD rule. Many of the attendees present have privy to the status of where it is.

I believe every one needs to test and type when fatalities happen, at least a few deer each year if we could put this info on paper maybe it will be useful one day in finding a cure or vaccine that works. to many times people blame this disease instead of knowing for sure, not to say that any of you dont know what you are experiencing just saying that paperwork will help to backup what we are really are seeing.

In Alabama we have to test every deer that dies and ehd is almost always the cause. Luckily I have never had a southern deer die from ehd. EHD has been prevelant in the South for years and the native deer have developed a pretty good resistance to it. I am cross breeding to Northerns and Texas with southern does. We will see how that works out. Time will surely tell.

Hello, I am new, and was wondering about the lime.

Why would you put out lime and and what does

it do

Yep lime helps to kill different bacterias that linger in the soil........good preventative measure to take in helping to keep your herd healthy!
