Has anyone used "Maximizer Plus Feed Supplement" from Real World Wildlife Products? A friend of mine told me about it. It is supposed to reduce EHD in deer herds. He said since he started feeding it to his deer he hasn't lost a single one. Before he started it he had lost close to 20. Just wondering if any of you have had any experience with the product.
Thanks,
Jake Freeman, Soggy Bottom Lodge

We started using both the free choice and the feed mix in spring 2017 once they were available in our area. We've lost deer to ehd in 2012, 2013 and 2016. With 2 ingredients that show to kill the ehd virus in blood stream within hours I couldn't pass up adding it. We will soon know if my luck is as good as your friend has had !!
Best of Luck

I'm using it this season, no EHD on my place. I am getting bit daily, but not real bad. Have used other methods in the past with no deaths, only light infection and recovery. 2012, 2013, 2014, lost several deer to EHD, no deaths since then.

I went a head and ordered a few bags to try out. we haven't lost any to EHD this year, but we decided to play it safe and try it

I hear it is working for everyone else. I'm feeding at 150% recommended rate and still loosing deer. We fight EHD every year and have a pretty good handle on treatment. What I was told is I needed to be feeding at least 45 days prior to onset of EHD. I fed at 50%-75% in July then 150% august 1st on. I just wanted to make sure they ate it in July then August 1st we started with label recommendations which i later found out were based on 3.5# per day consumption. I also booster my herd every June/July with the newport EHD vaccine. After sending 20 deer over the past 3 years to newport they are finally trying to make a vaccine from 1 of them. Of course it's nearly too late as I'm turning loose all my bucks that I am not breeding and have all my does for sale because I'm tired of EHD every year. First death August 25th. Cloudy and rainy days have done me more good than anything else. Usually it's a drought this time of year and the dust is so bad pneumonia sets in quicker. My main question is how is it supposed to stop EHD when start feeding and have to feed for 45 days prior at same time. I'm still feeding it and evaluating it. I'm trying to talk to their nutritionist but just haven't been able to get in touch because of my work schedule. Last year I lost 4 to EHD and 15 to post EHD pneumonia (tried using draxxin instead of Excede and it simply doesn't do anything on my farm). This year I have lost 3 to EHD and I am currently medicating roughly a dozen. So basically my numbers are matching up exactly to last year without it. I'm also proactively moving several deer into the barn every afternoon as well this year. The guys are working on something that is really needed so they still have my business and I am trying to work with them to help evaluate and improve at this point but with the cost vs what it's maybe saved I will consider it a waste if i loose 1 more deer.

I have been optimistically watching this in hopes that it is effective. Once the season is over I would love for farms that used to to provide feedback—positive or negative. I have heard of a couple farms near us give good reports. And one report that is neutral.

It would be nice to know the science behind it. Other than "it fights the EHD virus." From what little I know about this area of science I thought the only thing that fought a virus was white blood cells produced by the immune system of the deer.

We haven't been hit with EHD yet this year to speak of. The guy I know that is using it said he hasn't lost a single deer to EHD since he started using it. When you get in to the science of the formula it is way over my head...

EHD has hit hard in my county. We ordered the feed. The day feed arrived we lost 1 buck. started feeding and knock on wood it has been 5 days with no dead deer. They are dead all over in the wild. This is Crazy. I am fogging 2 times a day and feeding the Maximizer plus feed at 2.5 pounds per 50 of my grain. I sure hope it works. We need a frost, but I am guessing a month before that happens here in Ohio.

Our Government folks are so worried about CWD killing the Wild deer...... How about EHD?

The Roberts Ranch,
My thoughts exactly on the EHD CWD priority. I lost my biggest yearling last thursday to this crap! There are dead deer every where around my house now.

The feed and the Vaccine are not working here in Ohio. Any other suggestions? Fogging daily with Permanone, feeding this supplement and darted them with the EHD vaccine. We have been losing 1 a week. and just lost 2 bucks in 2 days. They are healthy, fat and good at one minute and dead 4 hours later. This is crazy !

Any other suggestions appreciated. Why is it just killing my Bucks? Not a single doe or a fawn lost yet !!! I stress Yet !

We have never used an EHD vaccine. All we use medicine wise is 1.5cc of draxxin mixed with 1.5cc of the 40mg dex. Seems to work pretty well for us. If we see a deer with any EHD signs we go ahead and dart them with that everyday until the symptoms are gone

I tried using Draxxin and Dex day 1 and it was terrible. I had quit using Draxxin before because of it's ineffectiveness but thought maybe if i hit them day 1 with it it will be good preventative. I will never buy another bottle of Draxxin as it has never cured a single deer of anything on my farm. Best luck I have had is a combination of Excede and Nuflor. We double the dose on everything that is not going in a fawn. I worry too much about a fawn's organs but once they are mature and harder to handle it's a different story.

I completely agree that you have to treat every day! I lost a beautiful 6x6 this year because of a communication failure my help didn't dart for 2 days and the he went down again so fast there was nothing to do. I hit my bucks harder. I usually only get 1 chance to dart Blackout and I hit him with 4cc 48mg dex and he bounced right back 2 years in a row. It's getting so dusty at my place their lungs will fill with dust when they start drooling this time of year.

I'm feeding the supplement as well but debating stopping.. I've treated over half my deer for EHD the past month and lost more than I did last year without any additives. Bad thing is we got hit the worst the last week of September last year so we are no where near out of it. I tasted the 20# mix and it has some of the same ingredients as the vanbeek essential oils only a lot more expensive.

The vaccine is not going to stop it if even help.

Dex keeps them alive. You have to get Dex in them asap then follow up with pneumonia treatment accompanied with dex. Like Soggy Bottom said you have to treat every day until they are well. If you skip a day because you think they are ok or try to taper off meds too soon they will die 9/10 times. Seems like if you can keep them from drooling you win if not... The biggest problem I have is the tendancy for pnue darts to bounce out so you never know if you got a full dose in them.

My bucks are easier to run than does when they get it. It's like they know it's their only chance. Ones we run get dex, excede, thiamine, tryptophan, and 1-2 liters of fluids.

Truth, are you saying you gave your buck 4cc's of the 48mg Dex? I'm only two years into looking after the whole herd full time, so I'm still learning every day. I was always told to mix it with an antibiotic, and that has just always been Draxxin for me.

2 years in a row one shot of that is all it took to turn around my breeder. He's got to be in bad shape to let you dart him more once a year. He'd run himself to death if you tried to dart him the next day. If we run deer we give Dex and Thiamine and Tryptophan as well as Excede. You can't get all that in a dart so day 1 and they usually get dex and thiamine, day 3 dex and antibiotics. That's what works best for us. We've saved about a dozen does this year but about 50/50 on bucks so far.

The strain of EHD we are experiencing here in Ohio has NO signs or Symptoms. The buck looks great one minute and dead 3 hours later. NO symptoms to treat like I have seen and heard about. This is a bad one. I had one buck dead and stiff in the morning laying in the normal bedded position..... never kicked or thrashed around like they usually do. feet layed under, head turned and dead !

Roberts Ranch, I've only lost one deer over the years like you are seeing, no signs at all that I could see.

Sometimes I see deer that, up close, just look like they hurt, in their eyes. Like a four year old child with a temp, you can look in their eyes and see it. No other symptoms. I treat immediately.

Others just get a limp, sore feet, no other symptoms.

Good luck on the rest of the herd.....
