This fawn had his eye halfway closed yesterday and today when I checked him he looked like this. Let me know what you think and what I should do.

Here is an updated pic. I gave him 1.5cc of tetradure and .5cc of banamine 3 days ago. The vet told me there really isn't anything I can do about it. He isn't bottle fed and with the scorching temps I'm afraid to stress him catching him. Just wanting opinions on if I should catch and treat him again or not stress him and overheat him.

Thanks Nate

Nate it looks like she either poked herself or has in infection started from a scratch. We had one last year with something like that though not quite that bad.We used terramycin ointment. You should try this also.We got ours from the vet but latter we did see the same stuff at our local tractor supply store!!!

These pics are current I think he is going down hill. I don't know what is wrong with him. Going to treat him later tonight with terrmycin ointment, bytril ,banamine, b complex

Nate,Good Luck I'm sure the eye ball it's self is gone. If not for the heat and more stress on him I think it would be best to put him down and have a vet remove the eye and sew it shut. But sounds like you need to get him a little stronger first and go from there. I know you are trying everything you can and thats all we can do. best of luck keep us posted

Does this fawn act normal? I ask this because last year I had a 3yr old buck that had an eye that looked very very similar to your fawn's eye. But he acted very unlike himself as in unaware of his surroundings. I gave him draxxin 3 times, and it was 3 days in a row or I skipped a day in between, can't honestly remember, but it was 3 doses and it made him brand new again, with the exception of the loss of site in his eye. So, if your fawn is acting ''out of it'' maybe it's the same thing my buck had, and if it is, get some draxxin in him, 3 doses, not more than a day apart. It worked for me. Good luck!

Ya he is not eating well and I'm scared he is going to die on me. I talked to my vet and he told me to give bytril, tetadure, banamine, b complex, and terrmycil ointment and sugar on the eye with a patch over it, so I did tonight. I also gave him pro biotics. I am to the point of maybe having his eyed removed to keep him alive. Ill try the draxxin though. I feel bad for the little guy.

Thanks for the reply Mark

Hippen - Got to thinkin and I'm pretty sure I gave the draxxin every day for 3 days, cause I remember thinking that I didn't have anything to lose if there was such a thing as giving draxxin too often, had him figured as dead anyway. His eye had the appearance as if it was going to pop right out of his head. And normally I give it subque, but I gave him all 3 doses intramuscular. I was able to walk/sneak up on him each time and syringe it in him, that's how ''out of it'' he was, cause this buck was not tame. He was a 90 to 100 footer. I would give your fawn .4cc each dose. Again, best of luck with whatever you do.

Here is an updated pic from today. He is about on his last leg. The vet said there isn't much I can do. I'm going to try to hydrate him by putting ringers under his skin. The heat and infection is just to much for him.

Mark I gave him .4cc of draxxin tonight along with dex, bytril, and terrmycin ointment.

Just an update

He is about the same its the third day of draxxin and don't really see any improvement. I also have been given him dexo and bytril every night. I'm going to stop giving the draxxin and only one more shot of dexo tomorrow night. I also gave him ringers to hydrate him last night. He just isn't improving and the vet doesn't want to remove his eye.

Thanks for all the help

Nate

Thanks for the update Nate, been wondering. Sometimes we do all we can, all the right things we can, and we still lose them. That being said, don't lose hope. I'd be curious to know how he looks in 3 to 4 days from the treatments you gave. Hoping.......

I will let you know in a day or two and get a pic after i take the patch off. I'm going to try to talk my vet into removing his eye if it doesn't get better in a couple days. I just feel so bad for the little guy.
