When you live within 40 minutes of one of the most successful deer operations in the world you just have to make a couple of visits each year. So yesterday my friend Rod Haehlke from Breezy Hills whitetails and I took a drive out to see the Flees operation here in WI.

Greg was very accommodating and took his time really giving us a great tour of the place. Greg wanted to start with one of the yearling pens near the house, but I stopped him asking about Bucky. Well at the age of 13 years old Bucky is still kicking it. He lives in the same pen he has lived in all those years. He has a few girl friends in there with him and although his antlers aren't what they were years ago, he still is pushing the bone. It was great to see the old guy cooling it in the shade like that:cool:

After seeing the Head Master we moved on to the rest of the tour. I won't even try and give a blow by blow account of what we all saw because when you see so many great bucks of all ages they start to run together. I gave my name choice to Greg on what they should call one of them. Total Impact. I hope Greg uses the name:) If you make the visit ask to see him, you won't be disappointed.

There were many great bucks ranging from Gambler, Bam Bam, Harry, Duke, Sudden Impact, but the rock star of the farm is Prime Time. He has a great look to him and is just massive. Sudden Impact is not going to disappoint either this year. He is really packing on the bone. And is showing his ability to produce in his young sons. Strangely enough his sons don't look like him, instead being wide and more typical looking.

Thanks much to Greg for the time he took showing us around.

Hows gambler looking this year Roger? shorty told me last year he did something like 320.

Neeby, like I said when you see so many bucks in one day you start to lose focus some and they all run together. But if I recall he was in with some yearlings and looked pretty good. On the wide side, but I would have NO CLUE on a score at this point. Heck I have a hard time judging scores, that is why I go by what everyone tells me about my own bucks:eek:

Roger, where are the pics????? We have a Prime Time doe fawn at the Flees farm now. They told Steve that Prime Time was going to be BIG TIME this year.

Roger, I haven't been there in four years and it is good to hear that Harry is still alive. When he was two years old many thought back then that he was a freak of nature with all the points and mass. As it turns out Harry also produced many large framed mostly typical bucks. His son W0064 is the sire of the doe Sudden Impact came out of and he was as listed above, large framed and mostly typical. It doesn't surprise me that Sudden Impact produces typical yearlings, but it would surprise me if they were slow maturing. JOE

Roger, Does Flees' Primetime look anything like AC Typhoon, similar genetics and both deer are 3 yrs. old? JOE

Joe, I am not slamming Typhoon because he is a great looking 3 year old and scores very well, but Prime Time has soooooo much mass you just can't believe it. His tines are more cleaner looking than Typhoon also. Just a really great frame.

Roger, All three bucks Typhoon, his sire Kodiak, and Double Down have one thing in common. They are bucks from the north that start growing antlers like a buck from Oklahoma or Missouri would. Up here in the great white north of MN I have seen good bucks in the past that would have been much better if they had more than brows and G-2's on the 4th of July. Some of these kind of genetics when crossed with those deer that start early have shown good results when bred that way. The genetic trait of being able to grow antlers in April or May in the north when the conditions are not what they are in the south is overlooked. I have not seen Primetime this year, does he have 30 points with 60" of mass, or would you say he has 40 points with 70" of mass? JOE

Joe, I have seen the pics of Prime Time and he is BIGGG TIMEEE. As for the Oklahoma or Mizzu folks and our early starting bucks. We would gladly take all of your cool summer weather right now so that our bucks aren't swimming around in their own sweat. With temps hitting 100-115 actual temp and heat indexes around 110-125 and not a breath of air. You want to see the bucks stop growing, come on down and bring some sunscreen. It doesn't matter when, why or how they start. It is all about how they finish!!!!! I'm sure some of the Texas guys would love to have some of my cool weather compared to what they have been getting too.

Michael, As of right now it looks like I will be coming down at the end of the month to Oklahoma City. I won't even tell you what the temp is right now up here, but I will tell you that it is cloudy and we have all the windows open. I am afraid that my visit to Oklahoma might be short-lived due to melting in all the oppressive heat.

Michael, Thanks for the weather update. Right now the temp. is 74* with a dewpoint of 47. It makes the drought a little easier to take when your highest temp. of the upcoming week will be tomorrow at 78* and then back to the mid 70's after that. Chance of thunderstorms Tuesday which could make things better around here since I can't rotate deer until there is some moisture in the soil.

Micheal, Right now, we just got back from a birthday pool party. It is 106, and it was 118 on the concrete around the pool. When we clean water every evening, the deer will come up and lay down in the mud, when we drain the water. It is a HOT S.O.B. down here.

You guys from the north will get a awakening in August. you wont ask why we cant grow that heavy mass anymore.

Just wanted to extend an invitation to anyone who is making a trip through WI to stop and visit our farm. We are located about 2 hours north of Green Bay, WI - about two hours from Flees farm.

Give us a call or e-mail ahead to be sure we are going to be around. We have a few trips planned ourselves.
