Need some advice the little guy seem to be doing good, is there anything I need to do to give him a boost. Are watch out down the line

WOW Seem's everyone is having early fawns!! Steve just take things slow and easy with the little one if you are bottle feeding. If not maybe try and get mom and fawn in a place by themselves. Good luck with the new one!!!

Just make sure the fawn is WELL HYDRATED. Do you have electrolytes? Ringer's solution if necessary?

Is he drinking formula?

Better safe than sorry. If you can get your hands on a bag of ultra 24(wayne could help ya!!) and mix 1/2 or 1 scoop of that with a gallon of red cap milk he will grow like a weed!!!

Him temp was 96 when I pull him this morning at 7am ,got it up to 101.5.Had to tube him after I got his temp up.Plus I gave him 40 cc ringers. If anyone has any thing else I am all ears.Hate to get off in a bad start it suck

Sounds like you really know what you are doing. If the fawn got mama's milk, and her colostrom- that's great. If not, you might have to do something further to get some "colostrum" type nutrients in him. Have you vaccinated him yet? I would hold off until he gets stronger and more able to control his bodyheat. Great thing you are warming him. Nice goin'.

If you are going to bottle feed, make sure to put 1 tsp colustrum per bottle milk. Don't mix colostrum into the milk batch but after each bottle is made, add the tsp colostrum per bottle. I like moorman's colostrum, likely in a green bag. Yes, everyone will say but the gut closes after 24 hrs and can't absorb colostrum or immunmoglobulins. That's exactly right. After 24 hrs, colostrum, IgA- immunoglobulin A, coats the intestinal walls approximately for only 4-6 hrs with natural immunity. Guess why we add colostrum to every bottle feeding? Because we feed every 4-6 hrs and each bottle will provide surface protection against e.coli, salmonella, etc naturally during the intervals. Ain't that cool. I didn't invent that, just learned it ;). I'm not a big proponent for vaccainations prior to weaning. Just my opinion. I like strong colostrum produced from vaccinated mommas 60 days prior to fawning. Adding colostrum to each bottle at every feeding until weaning will provide maximal "natural" protection against diarrhea causing bacteria that will dehydrate fawns quickly. Pennies per bottle add up to tremendous savings later!! Rule of thumb fluid for subcutaneous fluid therapy- 30 cc per pound per day for maintenance. Good luck and God bless!!!

I had one come way early last year from a yearling doe, she did not have any milk or act like she wanted anything to do with him. I took him a few hour's after birth, gave colustrum for a couple day's then started on red cap. He did fine but was not as fast growing as the other's, he was so small at birth about 1/2 the size of the other fawn's. Now as a yearling he has just abought caught up with the other's but still a bit smaller than the rest.
