pulled this fawn to bottle feed and saw that she has cataracts

not sure if she can see anything, maybe light and dark

anyone have any blind does out there??? if so how do they get along???

she is out of one of our better does  so I hate to not give her a chance

I have had that happen in fawns, given high dose of b complex and some thiamine and it's turned it around on occasion. We had a breeder here who was blind, of course he was a genetic sire and not actually able to live cover. He did fine, just had feed and water in the corners.

Good size fawn about a week old

How much b complex were u giving? How often and how long?

Thanks Ryan

We have a 3 week old doe fawn that is blind because of cataracts, does anyone have in experience with this condition?

I was recommended to give 5cc of vitamin b to a 5lb fawn once a day for a week and then re-evaluate. One thing to be careful of is that the blindness you may be seeing could be in relation to a bacterial infection as well, so we also added some baytril.

Unless it was infected in-utero it was that way at day 2 when we brought her in to bottle feed. She has been fine and not sick, so highly unlikely this is from infection, especially since the opacity is so even and uniform . Infection will usually leave opacites that are not so uniform. But glad you brought that up so others can learn!

Yup you are right on with that! It would stronger like you said in one area rather than uniform.

Lost a 7 month old bottle feed doe during the winter and she had cluster like opacities in her eyes. Also lost her womb buck fawn to pneumonia at 6 weeks. Hmmmmm guess that doe must not have had colostrum worth a hoot. I will tube hers with colostrum this year!
