Not related to cervid farming but you guys may be able to help. Im trying to age deer in trail camera pictures and tell if a buck will be 1.5 this fall or 2.5. Originally i assumed all of last years fawns will be the same size they were last fall, is this true? If i see a deer that is the size of a 1.5 this time of year will he be a 2.5 this fall or could he have been a fawn last year?

That question is very open ended and virtually impossible to answer correctly. Look at body size, antler size, etc and compare them to a deer that you know the age of. Not to be a smarta$$, but, what's it really matter how old he is in the wild? My guess is, still to small to shoot..lol

spikers or little basket racks by the end of summer will be 1.5 this fall.  fawns from last year in the wild may still be on the smaller side depending on the severity of the winter in your area and how much there was for them to eat.
