Fawn not eating

I have a fawn not eating. I took her in my house last night (30 hours old). She tried running away from me when I grabbed her, and I have seen her running and walking in the pen befor I took her.I tried to feed her in the morning. She just lays there I pick her up and put an my lap and try to feed put bottle in mouth and squeeze the nipple (prichard nipples) to get milk in mouth, but she sits there with it in her mouth and thte milk will drip out of her mouth, will not swollow. She will not stand for me. I rub her sides, throat stimulat her, but no luck.

Any help would be great.
 
check the navel for infection, sounds like she is fighting something, check her temp

(101 deg) navel infection can kill real quick because the infection will cause the intestine to fuse together and they starve to death with a full stomach.
 
Sounds to me you just need to give her some time. If you can take her in the house or the shed and just sit with her and pet her and talk to her once in a while. We do this for the whole evening when we bring them in. If they are afraid they are less likely to drink. Gain her trust and she will drink. Otherwise sounds like you are doing great.
 
I don't see anything abnornal with the navel. I have been spending time in with her. I started grunting like a doe and she gives some responce to that. I am going to bring her inside and see how today goes. thanks.
 
Time,time and more time is all she will need. I have had two so far this year that waited almost 12 hours before they would take anything. Now they are the two that are at the doors wanting to be fed first. She will come around just keep doing what you are. Good luck
 
I would try to put her back and see if she is still at the farm and hopefully mama accepts her back. Good luck!

I had one that I was having troubles with and I use pritchard nipples and they do work well....but I do think sometimes for some fawns they sit back to far in their throat and they refuse the nipple.....the one I was having troubles with i ran down to the local dollar store and got a baby bottle and he started on the baby bottle nipple right away....it's always a good idea to have a couple different nipples to try........and do make sure the fawns temperature is up to 101......if it's temp is down it will not nurse.......good luck!!
 
Thanks to everyone who wrote and called me you have been a big help. She drank two 4 oz. bottles this afternoon and had a couple bowel movements. I think she was bound up I think I got her first movements and the mother didn't. I hope we are good to go.

I had one delivered to me that weighed 14 lbs. She whipped my butt, hipped my tooth, I bit my tongue and ended with a busted lip/ She wouldnt eat for 3 days! I was told by a friend o put vics sab on her nose. next feeding she ate like a champ. maybe she was real hungry, or maybe we underestimate the power of their noses!

She is the friendliest one i have now!

go figure!

You need to watch doing the Vick's trick...It can take their breath away...I watched a vet put it in a opossum to get her to take another's babies than stick the babies in the pouch...For one that had to burn her... for Two it took the babies breath away... for Three it was in their eye...I have seen it used on a bear cub also turned out bad two...Their smell is stronger than a dog...The deer also have a strong smell...I would watch using it.

but that is my opinion.
