Fawn problem dont know whats wrong

Okay, So we got this fawn about a week ago, it was by itself on the highway, nothing else around it. There was flooding so it could've been washed down there. It was eating well for a few days, and then it kind of slowed down (it's only about two weeks old and it was eating around 12-8 oz a day), so when my grandfather came over because my parents were away, he thought that it absolutely had to eat, so he and my grandmother spend about an hour with it with a bottle, and eventually decided to feed it some cereal, which didnt seem like a good idea. Since they are my neighbors they took it to their house until the next morning. When they brought him back he was fine until about 3 hours later when he was really bloated, and stopped trying to play and stuff. He also stopped drinking. We called and asked what they had given him other than formula and they said oatmeal. He isnt drinking right now, i really need some help!
 
Usually every hour or so, he only takes it in small increments. I've spent the past week up with him feeding him at night. Usually its an ounce or so at a time.

When he stopped drinking we tried a little bit of pedialite mixed with water, and he drank some of that but not nearly as much as he had done on the milk th other day.
 
About two weeks. The problem is he just won't eat, like not swallowing. It looks like he's trying to sleep most of the time, which is odd because he hasn't seemed like he's need to sleep much. I have goats milk on hand and Manna Pro Mulitiple Spieces.

Have you checked with Fish and Wildlife to make sure you can have the fawn?? I know in Kentucky you have to give the fawn to a Vet. and let them take care of them.. Has he been pooping??? You can give me a call if you still need some help.

Are you stimulating the fawn to poop and to pee? You need to do this whenever you bottle feed him/her. Just rub/clean the fawn's private parts for a few seconds to achieve this. Also, take a fecal sample to a vet and have them test for parasites. The fawn needs to drink milk/formula (goat's milk) regularly.
 
Most of the bloating came down and when I came to check on him, at about 5:30 A.M. he had pooped a lot, very runny stool, and continued afterwards by himself. He is still not eating much, I have been trying to give him formula but he's not taking much, not even an entire ounce.
 
You need to get a fecal sample, and if he has parasites, get him some meds. Albon liquid is the drug of choice for coccidia bacteria. You need to make sure you try hard to get liquids into him. If he has diarrhea, you have to research this forum and figure out a way to stop it. People try everything, and have used stuff that they use on their own babies/children. I only know that with my doe, she responds well to CANNED PUMPKIN (just Libby's plane pumpkin, no spices) and GOAT MILK. Try this immediately by placing the pumpkin into the milk you give the deer.
 
You can go to the local tractor supply, rural king, farm and fleet or what ever you have around there and get some calf electrolytes. It comes in powder form and you mix it with water and try to get it drinking that because dehydration is a real problem with a young fawn. warm it just like you would milk. It might be alittle young for anything but milk water and fresh dirt right now. Try alternating electrolytes and milk every 4 hours or so. If the stomach is upset you can give it 1 or 2cc of pepto bismaul in the bottle for a time or two.
 
I'm honestly supreised he's still alive at this point, but we had a guide for this stuff that someone had printed off earlier and we gave him the medicine with goat's milk, worked great. His stool is still not shaped well or anything, just sort of a mush, which is an improvement. We've been giving him fluids ever twenty four hours to counter diarrhea, and I'm going to start on those scheduled feedings that nickh posted, because he's eating willingly now. Thanks for the help so far, but I'm still not entirely sure if he's going to live.
 
No one is stating the obvious reason for the bloat. The rumen of the fawn wasn't ready for grain type food and that is the reason for the bloat. When it started through its system it caused the bloat and loose stool. As that works its way out of the fawn and you keep it on milk only for now it should come around. Lets hope no food or milk went down the wind pipe as that will kill it in time. There was no disease issue here just operator error.

Follow Nicks feeding method and it should become healthy. You could ad a little pumpkin to the milk and that will tighten his stool up.
 
He's eating his goat's milk now, and, we're going on the schedule, and he's eating way better, and actually eating on his own, but he'll take an ounce, stop, and then 5 minutes later I'll offer him a bottle or he starts whining. And I got a little bite mark on my earlobe because of him.
 
Most likely if you call fish and game they will take it and destroy it at least in ohio. But goat milk is always a great option. Go to tractor supply and pick up a few things. suringes, small gauge needles and a bottle of injecable antibiotics. Does it pee and poop on its own. Try stimulating its genitals and pooper with a damp paper towel. As for the anitbiotics try duramycin .5 cc once a day for 3 days that usually clears my fawns up
 
I think what you are doing is great. Just do not release him back into the wild. He can and will become a danger when he gets older and is in the rut. Either put him behind a fence or have him clipped before releasing.
 
Hate to dig up an old topic, but the same fawn is having a constipation problem, and we were wondering if we should be sticking vitamins in his milk. He's eating some solids (and trying to chew on cables), but he's really bloated again, and his skin is very tight, and he isn't pooping much. Any possible causes?

EDIT: I called Nick and we pretty much figured out that it was the stomach change (on every website I looked at, nothing about this was ever mentioned!) And someone is going to get the stuff to give him an enema. Another thing we found is he hasn't grown much, which is odd (I hadn't noticed any growth, but I figured it would progress slowly) and he's not eating as much as he should, even when he's okay/normal. Any suggestions as to why this is?
