Fawn with swollen foot

Hi everyone, just looking for a bit of advice here. I noticed a few days ago that we had a doe fawn who was not using one of her back legs. She just holds it up all the time and uses the other 3 to get around. We left it, just figuring that she twisted it or something, from running around etc. She is eating fine and acting completely normal otherwise. I went to feed lastnight and noticed that the foot/hoof is quite swollen now, and has a sore in the front middle of it. Of course this **** is not a bottle fed.....so I'm just wondering....do I just keep an eye on things or try to dart her to give drugs etc? I can easily catch her in my catch building, I just think she will go nuts once we try to handle her.

Thanks for your time

Might be a case of foot rot. If it is i would treat it as soon as possible.

I agree, Ryan. Sounds like foot rot to me, too, since it is swollen & has an open sore in the middle. Is it just above the hoof? You need to get a handle on it & start treating it right away. I had a buck that had it & I ended up treating him for a couple of months!

Thanks for the replies. It is the right foot and open sore just above hoof. Pretty badly swollen. What do you recommend I treat with? She is not a bottle fed and tricky to medicate I would think. What causes foot rot?

Thanks again
