Hi! This is Rustys wife. I should let him ask, but I am too anxious to wait for him to get home and post.

We have a fawn about two weeks old now and she has been eating good up until the last two days. We can not get her to eat now. Her belly is not looking empty like I would think, but is rather full looking and feeling. I am starting to really worry. I felt the inside of her mouth and it is feeling a bit on the cold side, which I know is not a very good thing. I don't want to loose her, but don't know what is going on! Any idea or suggestions. We were feeding her red cap milk 4 times a day.

She is a sweet little thing that I have been getting attached to since I feed her almost exclusively. I want to thank all of you in advance for any and all help. You guys have been such a wonderful source of knowledge and support and it has been greatly appreciated!

yes...I have seen her poop and it is solid, and can sometimes smell it if it is dark and I can't see it. I don't know how much is really normal, but she had been pooping.

Do you give the fawn any fresh dirt or probiotics daily? Billie Jo should be able to give you some good sound advice..........Hope you get her truned around!!! Let us know what the outcome is!!

oh we are pluggin along Billie Jo.........fawns have good healthy apetites (don't want to say what their eating per feeding... might start a riot on the forums) and their stools are starting to solid up a bit.......hoping to get them started on calf mana a little in the next week.........

If you can smell it in the dark, you have a problem. Shouldn't be that strong, so my guess is probably clostridia. Treat with C/D anti-toxin if you have it. Back down on your ration, add more water, and back down on the ounces for a few feedings. Give probiotics liberaly.

Well I tried to see if I could stimulate her to poop like Billiejo had suggested and I have tried twice and she has a small amount of hard poop and then a bit of runny soon afterwards. She is so bloated and that is what Billie thought she might be suffering from...bloat. I could not get ahold of Rusty and couldn't get any numbers off of him for the deerfarmers he knows locally. I hope she will make it for atleast another day and I hope we can get her some meds tomorrow. I gotta try to warm her up. Her mouth is fairly cold. Not good. I felt it earlier and then second guessed on whether or not it was really cool, but now that the night has set in I can really tell for sure that it is cold. Poor girl!

No he hasn't. He did the probiotics last year, but not this year.

Do you have any gas drops? If so you might try some - it has helped us in the past.

I will check, but our kids are out of that stage now and not sure if we still have some around or not. I tried to force her to take a little water with some baking soda in it. Got a little down her. I have brought her inside now to try and keep an eye on her. I see that my husband has some type c antitoxin in the fridge. Does this help? If so how much should I give and how? If it requires a needle I will have to wait up until 3am for him to get home and let him know.

Rusty i would give the probiotics too.....it is my understanding that is what get their bellies and digestive system striaghtened out and keeps it on the right track!!

I know Rusty had some probiotics last year. I am not sure if he still has some or not. I might check around. Thanks for all you guys help!

found the probiotics and gave 5g. Not sure if this is enough, but that is what the tube said a goat should get at birth so I figured it would be safe. Got gas drops but not sure if I should give this too and how much.
