I have a fawn that's two weeks old and drinking 8oz three times a day. She seems like she always hungry and seems not to be gaining any weight, while the others are doing fine.. Her hip bones are sticking out and she always looks drawn up. She'll follow you around everywhere you go and try sucking on your finger. Could she have worms? or something else?

I personally feel she is just that hungry. My two week olds are all eating 30 to 36 oz per day. I have used the red cap method this year with 1/2 cup milk replacer per gallon.

You could worm her in the milk just in case or do a float on her stool to see if she has worms.

I agree, she is hungry. If you are only able to feed 3x / day, you have to move their ounces up much faster. I would agree with only 8 oz/feeding if you were feeding 4 or 5 times a day, but she is only getting 24 oz. / 24 hours. If she weighs 10 or 12 lbs., that is barely enough to maintain hydration, and not nearly enough to help her grow. If you could add another feeding, and stay on 4x / day, that would be my recommendation so that she gets enough total consumption per day, without being overloaded at each feeding.

I totally agree with Robbie and it was the first thing that popped into my head also when reading the first post. I have a fawn, 2 weeks old today, and he is drinking 6 oz 6x/day. Plus he gets an extra ounce at night to hold him over til morning....for a total of 37 oz/day. I'm going to bump him up again, because he is overly hungry and I think he can handle it.

At 8oz per feeding she looses interest and won't drink anymore. I've tried to give her a 10 or 12oz bottle with no luck. We're using red cap milk with replacer 1/2 cup per gallon.

Maybe we'll try and add a 4th feeding into our already busy day. Thanks to all!!!

i am using red cap with 1 tsp of milk replacer per bottle 3x per day and my 2 week olds are getting 8oz per feeding seem to be getting bigger by the day i am sure a extra feeding would be good but i am not sure that what you are doing would cause them not to gain weight may just be that deer.

Just one has the issues (P-27). All the others don't look like her and they're getting bigger. P-27 just looks and acts hungry all the time.

Brett, you might try some of Target's W 80 powder. ( I believe that the name). It helps with weight gain and body condition. Jeff or Robbie will know what Im talking about. I used it on a couple of sick fawns this week with an immediate response of gain. Good luck and keep a couple of those 2 Wide ***** for me....

I will say that some just will not drink there whole bottle that is there nature, not to disagree with anyone cause folks on here know way more than i do, 8oz 3 times a day I feel is plenty for a 2 week old fawn, and yes they are always hungry. More feedings a day and feed a little less is probably a better solution but just not fit into our schedules, fawns all grow at different rates just like people, even with the same consumtion amount.

ProBiotics in bottle once a day is a plus

Survive D will increase their energy level and inturn they will drink better sometimes

Stool sample check would be good

Dirt should be made avaliable to them

Some feed Calf manna or another should be made avaliable for them to nibble on

(Was she born smaller than the rest??)
