Feed

I'm with Matt, We used them in our feed for years till high prices forced us to remove them.

With that said.................What can we add or subtract from feed to help with cost ?

I think this is an important issue as deerfarmers to address and help each other out what is everyones thoughts?

Is anyone using distiller’s grains with solubles (DDGS) a by product of making ethenol in their feed? Its also known as Dakota Gold.

Tom, In my area you have to be on a list to get it and the cattle the farmers are e the top of the list.

my mill added more corn and beans to the mix

I use sunflower but just 15lb per 1000lb of feed, I was adding them for the fat but no longer need them to get the fat I want so I think they will be removed from the next batch of feed.

I need to look my feed mix over to see how I can save money. The mix I use now is working great but is not cheap, just dont see how I can start taking thing's out and still have it the way I want it.

Trust me if you want to be able to continue to feed your deer the way they need to be fed and be able to afford it you will need to make adjustments....this drought is serious and will effect all of us...drastically.......not saying the sky is falling....but I can assure you prices will rise a lot!! They already are....

Dennis, That is why I'm asking WHAT....? we as deer farmers add or subtract from our feed mixes to be able to maybe help adjust with the rising cost!................And also HELP some folks stay in business!

EVERYONES thoughts on this subject would be welcomed and thier help appreciated!

Wyane, i agree....need to think on it a bit...but you are right....this is something we all need to help one another out with......things will be getting real tight here in the near future........I promise if I can come up with some good alternatives I will post them....right now I have made no changes...but they are coming soon!!

man this is tuff, what abount pellets ?

I make a spray that has vitamins and minerals and oils that replace the sunflower seed. All you need the sunflower seed for is the oils so I replaced the seed oils. It also helps keep the birds from wanting the feed as bad.

I think we can expect corn prices to skyrocket withi the drought in those corn belt states. It will cause the cost of pelleted feed to rise as well.
