Has anyone ever fed their deer potatoes ? I'm wondering how good are they for deer and how many could a person give them . I would like to supplement the potatoes in lieu of the rapidly rising grain costs. Any thoughts on this ?

We feed our deer potatoes and other fresh veggies and fruit in the evening. They love them. Not sure nutrition wise but we are not feeding them in lieu of just as a treat. We also give some crushed supplement in a banana as they won't eat it just in the food.

Some deer do eat potatoes. here in Pa they will dig them up with there hooves right out of the fields!!good source of carbs and fiber but not a whole lot of vitamins though.

I didn't take the time to research the nutrition levels, but potatoes are starch, and corn is starch (energy). Neither would be very high in vitamins or minerals. I suspect the energy density is much higher in corn, thereby making it more cost effective- but it would be interesting to see where the tipping point is.
