Has anyone tried a pure electric fence that's 8-10ft tall as opposed to the mesh field fence type ? Would it work? For example say you did a 8ft fence and ran a wire every foot . Just a thought that crossed my mind.

Not legal in Michigan. If it was I would use High tensile wire with the spring tensioners on the corners to keep the wire tight, and probably every 6 inches and not 8. With that being said it is cheaper to use the woven wire. Don't need to worry about the electric shorting out or long power outages, which we have in Michigan. Also if the weather is hot and dry (drought) electric fences don't always work the best. That is my opinion only.

The first time you scare them they would go through the single strands. If they will hit the woven wire hard enough to kill them, they would shoot right through the single strands.

My father has a grape vineyard and he has the electric fence setup spaced at 6 inches on the bottom couple rows and 10 inches on the top couple rows. It worked for awhile then the wild deer started going right threw it or they would just jump it. Wouldnt recommend it just my thoughts.

What about 4ft field fence and electric from there up? With flagging tape so they can see it.

I still think that isn't going to work, but it really doesn't matter if it works or not. If you are going to raise whitetails in an enclosure you must follow you state regulations and I don't know of one state that has anything less than 8ft. woven wire. I believe even some are at 10ft woven wire. Now if you are just trying to keep wild deer out of somewhere then it is a different story. I believe that you last option would deter wild deer from trying to get in.

Deer inside the pen when spooked typically hit at the 5 and 6 foot mark.

I do not see anyway a complete or partial electric strand fence will work to keep deer in. Like Brett said, they will blow through it like it's not even there when they get spooked, and it won't matter how many times they got ''stung'' by the fence before, they will still blow through.

Adequate to keep other deer out , yes...but not keep deer in.

The best for you Rhino1

We tried a 20 strands of high tensile on interior fences with spreaders every 10 feet. We cranked them down to 300 lbs of spring pressure on each wire. Lasted 3 months then the bucks destroyed it. They started twisting their horns in the high tensile wires. I guess they liked the sound and resistance of it. Don't even waste your time on it.
