I know that fences have to be 2meter high approximately, I'm just wondering how far apart should the posts be?

I believe the fence makers recommend 16 to 18 feet apart. This allows the fence to spring in and out when a deer hits it which should cause less death from impact. When posts are set closer it is like hitting a solid wall and the animals will hurt themselves or cause more damage or death to the animal.

A properly braced and streched fixed knot net can handle 25' post spacing in a low pressure area. As Jack said, closer is not always better. If you'd like any local advice or supplies, just let me know and I'll get you the contact info. I was just the other side of the Irish Sea a couple weeks ago to build a bit of fence.

For those who read the post talking about 25' spacing. Make sure you check your States regs before building a fence. It has been a few years since I read the regs, but for instance WI was always 20' max between posts. It sure would suck to build it and when the inspection takes place find out you need to do it over.

In Indiana, if the fence were built on a property line, 16.5' spacing would be the maximum for intermediate posts to be considered a legal boundary fence. I think Indiana also requires a 10' perimeter fence for high fence hunts. We will space posts up to 35' on interior fixed knot woven wire for cattle. Obviously a little closer for a heaver fence would make sense. Proper installation and bracing would certainly be a must for increased posts spacing, as well as being in a low pressure area with the right terrain. It is important to know what the specifications are for any project, especially when a government inspector is involved. I hope nobody took what I said to mean that one formula works in every situation.
