Is there a structure I can build in order to apply fly control insecticides?

I remember I once saw a string with hanging ropes that were soaked in some type of insecticide and deer had to go beneth it in order to get to food and water areas.

I also saw something that looked like "paint" rollers close to the feeders' mouths that worked very similar?

Can you post any pictures of any type of applicators of this sort.

Thanks

Goto Keith Warrens website to the full episode section, deer and wildlife stories and select the Show Me Whitetails w/Darren Deckard and you will see excatly what you are talking about with the wicks around the feeder. You won't be disappointed in fact I bet you will catch yourself watching more of the episodes,I know I did. Good Luck.

I know this will be hard to believe but with the garlic additive in our feed we have never seen flies on our deer. They come into the office they bother the horses they bother the bottle fed fawns but never the adult deer in our pens.

Yes Scott they use the garlic in the feed around here and it works....i am going to start using it in my next batch of feed!! Scott check your pvt messages!!

Todd,

I beleive they use the powder and have it mixed in with the feed........Sounds like you can use either or. I was told the powder works better.. Just make sure you have a truck when you go to pick a bag of it up........it smells pretty strong!!!! Wouldn't want to haul it in closed quarters thats for sure!!

Paul,

I will have to find that out for you......I have seen it but i have not used it yet.....so I will be buying the stuff for the first time soon......i do know that it works though.

What is the cost of the garlic?

Paul,

Leo and Dr. Warren from ADM spent monday at Apple Creek on one of our monthly reviews. The cost of garlic is low less than $15 per ton of pellets. The results the last 3 years are remarkable.

I feed the 16% Purina Deer Chow. Does anyone know if the offer a feed with the garlic in it? Do you use this feed with the garlic in it just during the summer months and then change back to no garlic during the fall and winter?

I just received a couple of weeks ago my first batch of feed with garlic powder but have seen that the deer are eating much less than before. Hopefully it just takes time to get accostumed to the new taste.

Any experience with garlic additives in Texas? Down here in the south, we have a lot more flies because of the heat.

Thanks for all your comments.

Novillo,

With the garlic mixture that we use in our feed, we almost never see flies on our deer.

There is a big difference in types of garlic. Garlic powder can be too strong taste and smell and the deer may avoid eating it. We have ADM crush 6 pounds of whole garlic per ton into our pellet and it only raises the cost about $15 per ton. Our feed consumption is good our body weights are borderline overweight. I personally am over weight but working on a new venison diet.

Hopefully this advice can keep farmers from having to spray harmful chemicals onto their valuable deer or pastures.

Hi guys:

This may be a foolish question but, is there a specific manufacturer of garlic (either pellets or powder) for deer or are you just using larger quantities of household stuff? Can you please provide the manufacturer's name and website or phone number? I have a significant fly problem in the summer months and would love to ease "fly pressure" off of my deer.

Thanks,

Daniel

Daniel,

Apple Creek Whitetails feed pellets are made by ADM who purchases whole garlic cloves like you buy at the store. This is than crushed and added to pellet . The garlic powder is too strong smell and taste for whitetail. Leo from ADM phone # 218-820-0658 if you need service he will link you with rep in your state.
