Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what kind of formula they use when bottle feeding fawns. Last year we used Zoologic not satisfied with the outcome looking for a better formula.

Many would say straight Redcap milk, as i would and some like to mix the Redcap with some of the replacers out there. Do some research from some farms in your area that may use Redcap and see what you think. We have had great luck with it.

Hey what do you mean you were not satisfied? Im kinda curious what your results were? We used Superior Milk Replacer mixed with water 2013 . I had all my fawns grow up and all seem fine. 2012 we used raw goat milk and I believe that was the best if you can get it from a CLEAN goat farmer.

12 yrs doing bottle feeding and last 3 were by far the best and easiest  red cap and fox valley no probs

1 gal of milk and 1 cup of fox valley

Wayne:  What is Ultra 24????

It's a multi species milk replacer.  Just search Grade A Ultra 24 multi species milk replacer on google or something and it will come up.  It's available at most places online that sell livestock supplies.  I always buy mine at my local Tractor Supply Company.

We were fighting with scours and dehydration alot. Not sure if it was from milk replacer or what just going to try something different this year. Doing some research on Superior Milk Replacer Inc.

Used Zoologic last 3 yrs and very satisfied

What were your issues?

Scours and dehydration

When your having scours and dehydration I like to feed pedialyte every other feeding so it calms the stomach down and back off on how much your feeding the fawn plus make sure you have fresh dirt. I also like to start the fawn on a goat colostrum for the first day or two then I first pull the fawn then start feeding the milk replacer

Bill, I think Ryan explained it! LOL  :D

I like it because it is readily available at Orchelen's Farm Stores, I don't have to keep alot on hand and works just as well plain and don't have the added cost or hassel of going to get 24 gallons of Red Cap Milk every other day!

1 bucket of superior milk replacer feeds 1 fawn for the whole bottle feeding season costs around $110 a bucket

This will be my first fawning season.  Those mixing milk replacer with red cap, what schedule / ounces per feeding are you giving them?

Send me your email address and I'll send you what I do.

I like to add canned pumpkin like you would use for pumpkin pie to what ever formula I use. This year i'm using red cap milk with a goat formula that I got from Armada grain the same place I get my deer pellets.

I've used fox valley, Zoologic and straight red cap milk. I think using raw pumpkin in the bottle with probiotics and not over feeding has been the key for me.

I fed many brands of milk replacer for 20+ years. Always had a few problems with either bloat or scours. Changed six years ago to redcap, very, very few problems of any kind. You could not pay me to go back to formula of any kind.
