Are there any tricks that I should know? When I ran the deer in for the first time, 4 refused to go in and would run past you in the ally. I ended up darting them and putting them in the facility.

You should have it so you can close them in when you get close to the handling facility.....as far as the alley.....I got two PVC pipes and taped the ends of a 12x12 tarp to each pipe so we could stretch it across the alley way when they tried to come back.....they get nervous when they can't see through something and when it is too high for them to jump over it....so they usually will turn and run back the way you want them to go......so far it hasn't failed me yet in 5 years....I am sure the day is coming when one may be an exception to the rule....good luck!

I zig zag my alley with black plastic from Henry Martin and it did wonders. The deer are always hiding around the next corner.

We ran deer our first time this last fall 2012 and it was tricky our dog tame does would be the ones who got past us but you have to just rush them don't let them turn around. Its frustrating...

I have a pusher gate that runs the last 100' + feet of the alley way. It lays flat against the side of the alley and the trolley pipe forms a J so it is always there if needed!

It will get easier the MORE you get your deer used to going to the barn.

Try letting them out into the alley way a day or two before you need to put them in the barn.......it will help them get used to the alley and being in it.

This has worked really well for us on years we have to TB test the whole herd........especially on the bucks!

Best of luck............. Turns and corners and pushers ALL help the more the deer think they are getting away from you the easier they go.

Also try shuffling your feet in the gravel or dirt the closer they get to the barn.

Wayne hit the nail on the head, the less contact you have with the deer for the last stretch of the way the better off you are. If you can have a movable wall that the deer can't go through it makes things ten times easier. Plus once you get them into the handling facility they are not as worked up. This only increases your conception rates.

Guillotine doors work well. When the deer pass the door lower it behind them with a rope and pulley system. You can separate the deer that way and open a door when you want to move them forward. Also have spots where you can peak into the system and rattling a plastic bag in the ole gets them to move.

I feed and water my deer in the holding pen before I get ready to work them. I leave the gates open so they can come and go from the holding pen to their normal pen. They get used to going in when fed and you just feed them let them go in and shut the gate. Usually it takes a couple of minutes to catch them. Easiest way I have found so far.

Right on Gaylen....we "excercise" every deer we own all summer long and when it comes to running them for anything, they know exactly where to go and its totally no big deal. One pen per day/night continuously all summer. The does are exercised as soon as the fawns are old enough and the bucks are exercised all summer long while docile. Our bottle fed does are the easiest to work although some seem to have a problem with tame does. Most of our does (except the wild ones) come right out the gate and we can take a specific doe out very easily....we just walk them down the alley and put them in the holding facility or holding pen. We use a 4-wheeler to get a whole pen out since we still have some wild ones. We have quite a long alley and with a little training, we don't have any problems.

I run mine thru mid February and worm and give La 300 and Covecnin 8

I have always done it this time year with NO problems......A vet told me its nearly impossible to hurt their pregnancy after 45 days.

Best of Luck

Thanks for the tips. I put put 2 corners for them to hide behind and used a tarp attached to pvc pipe to walk them into the barn. It was a breeze!
