Take the time to test your soils. Look at tall fescues for northern climates if you have enough exposure to sun. A lot of pasture mixes include clovers and even alfalfa that have proven here not to hold up under heavy deer traffic. Check with your local deer people and see what they are using. Get ready to fertilize and probably limit deer traffic on new seed for a growing season
I planted all my pens in the ladino white clover. Comes back every year. Once it starts coming back up for the spring around this time of year I go and broadcast ladino down in every pen.
Ok so I got my new pen all tilled up. I decided to go with just fescue so it could take deer traffic better. I also mixed in lidino clover. I bought all my seed without looking up seed rates. From what I'm seeing it says 1 to 2 pounds of seed per acer . My pen is 2 acers. I put a 50 pound bag of clover seed on. The I looked on Internet to see seed rate. I think I may have over done it!!.
