Concerning my most important buck fawn (Caleb) that had bloat - HE LIVES! We had him figured as dead. Not only could he not stand, he couldn't even hold his head up. We did as advised: Caleb was given 6cc of penicillin orally and 9cc of anti-toxin- 3 in each hip IM and 3 Sub-Q in the neck. He was given thiamine and banamine. I also gave him 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil mixed with 1 tablespoom milk as advised by Curtis. The vet opted not to deflate Caleb because he thought he wasn't tight enough to worry about.
The next morning I went out and totally figured on finding him dead. He was alive but hadn't moved all night, not one inch. His face hadn't even moved. I had measured his stomach the day before so I could monitor it to see if it was increasing. So as I was holding Caleb up to measure his gut he lifted his tail and pooped. I rubbed his butt and he pooped 2 more times in the 10 minutes I helped him stand. I was encouraged by him pooping. At noon when I checked on him he had his head up. Later in the afternoon when I checked on him his head was again up and he was responsive to my voice. At early evening when I went out to give him more anti-toxin . . . .there he stood waiting for me. WOW!!
We cannot thank all of you whom responded enough, but we pray God will bless each and everyone of you abundantly! Thank you again.
