Has anyone out there used and had success with the Great Pyrenes breed in terms of guarding deer? Any suggestions about raising these dogs?

Go up to "community" & select on pictures & albums & look at "my babies" pictures. You will see some pictures

Anyone have a Great Pyrenees pup that they'd part with? I'd even trade a decent yearling doe or something. Don't care if it is registered, from working parents a plus.

How do your new deer react to them? Say deer recently purchased from another farm without dogs? Do you do any kind of interduction or put htem in a special pen?

Hi Chad

We have 3 large dogs, and everytime we move a deer from another farm in we gradually introduce the dogs on a leash over about a 2 week period. We start off by keeping them at a pretty good distance and slowly working them a little closer every day. If you watch the body language of the deer you can tell when they are getting nervous and we back away. I think the most important thing is the new deer watch and see the reaction of the other deer. We have 6 deer that came from other farms and have introduced them all to our dogs. But let a strange dog show up and all he** breaks out.

Call Bob Reasner from Chillicothe. Got a pup from him 4 years ago and wouldn't know what to do without him. If he doesn't have any he could tell you where to get a good one. They are just like any animal bloodlines are everything.

That's great, will do! Thanks, and are you new to the forum? Are you farming deer in Mercer?
