outthere, wv
I live in WV and for a state that has such a large population of white tails why dont we have any rescue shelters or farms dedicated only to captives? And also why is it sooo wrong to 'save' a fawn if you know that the mother has been killed? Why is it so illegal even if you intend to turn it out? Guess I am missing something...

Thanks just wondering

Too many people do not find a place that rehabs or even breeds and keep them. Which gets all of us a bad rap.this is how I feel and whati have seen. There is more to it. But that is in a nutshell

Most DNR government State agency's did have rehabs or supported them years ago. This was and is a lot of work which didn't make money for the DNR. They really only ran them for public relations. When CWD came along they used this as a reason to get out of being humane to the animals that made their living.

Also Chey , the DNR's want people to THINK if you hand raise a wild deer that deer will be sooooooo infested with diseases that it will in turn infect all their wild deer , even if it's a wild deer someone found abanded or the doe was killed . In southern Wi 9 armed wardens and 4 armed sherriff's took and killed a fawn being raised by the St Francis no kill farm ! The DNR's are trying to convince the public that any deer saved and handled by a human has to be distroyed giveing the public the idea that farm raised deer (deer raised and handled by people ) are diseased and should be done away with ! It's their way of doing away with cervid farms ! Why all the hoopla ? Because we've allowed them to get their way with little to NO resistance. When an industry keeps giving in, the DNR's and other govenment groups keep on taking . Why not it's been sooooo easy for them.

OMG!!!!! My jeffery seems sooo healthy. He was with his momma for about three days before she was hit and he has had no problems except an eposode of bloat but that was my fault. His spots are gone. The DNR here in WV can kiss my A## . He is out now and he still come in once a day.. I dont regret a minute of it....

Lots of "turned out deer" ,if bucks , can turn dangerous during rut to people or just become pests to people they end up living near or get smoked by a car because they don't have normal fear of cars or people. However they turn out , mostly they have to be delt with and rescue is the problem. The DNRs don't like problems. Jim
