Hello,

I took in an orphaned fawn 3 months ago. When I got him I assumed he was about a day old. He's been extremely healthy, playful and eating well. Still on milk replacer and eating quite a bit of apples and veggies. He does his thing and goes in and put as he pleases so I know he's grazing as he should. About 4 days ago I noticed what I thought was a slice on his ankle so I went to clean it and upon further inspection it seemed like the skin was just dry and was peeling off in almost a perfect circle. I put neosportin on it and went on well now more of these spots have appeared. They are all close to a done size circle and just peel off with a light layer of yellowish sticky stuff attached to the skin that peels off. They are just surface wounds no depth to them and they don't bleed. There is a sore on each ankle, one by his mouth and one appeared above his eye yesterday. I read on this forum alot and gave him 1cc of penicillin yesterday and sprayed the sores with blu-kote. I am attaching photos please ignore the blue/ purple tint it's from the blu-kote. Does anyone have any idea what this could be!?

Had this happen at a friends farm this year to every fawn he had..all lived after I treated them..I just cleaned up the sores with peroxide and gave antibiotics

I have a couple with the same things. I believed them to be bites from those big horse flies. I have never had these before and i have never had as many of the big horse flies as we do this year.

Haven't noticed any horseflies but we do live on the water so they very well could be back in the thicket where he wonders to sometimes. Should I go forth with the penicillin for a few days?

How long would you recommend giving the penicillin for?

I have done nothing and they just dry up and heal over. I have only seen any on the side of their face and down below their ears. Kinda looks like ringworm but must bother them some as i have seen them..Itch, At them with their hind hooves!
