Help with feed

Recently I have had Doc Shipley up for a visit to my deer farm in an attempt to find any problem that might be causing my adult deer to die occassionally as well as way too much of my fawn crop. Doc tested my feed (corn mixed with a 38% protein pellet for dairy cattle to make 16% protein feed), and found I needed to change my feed. My question is: Who or what would anyone recommend near me in my area (NW Illinois) to use as a feed for my deer? I have a 3 ton hopper so I of course whould prefer bulk in place of bags in order to be cost effective. Will appreciate any and all advice on what to do as well as what not to do. Thanks in advance!

Would also like to thank whoever it was who recommended Dr. Shipley to me. He is quick to respond, extremely thorough in what he does, and genuinely cares for you and your deer. I recommend him highly!

I thought Doc Shipley could help you out. I know he helped me a bunch with my first tb test. His advice probably saved me a few deer. I was just curious to how many deer you are feeding. 3 tons at a time gets you a good price but I would rather keep my feed fresh especially going into those humid summer days as mold can be a problem. You might also find a feed mill that will add some garlic to your feed in the summer as it helps with the flies. We add about 5 pounds of granulated garlic to every 1000 lbs of feed. Rick

Pertaining to my feed analysis, it was suppose to be 16%, yet tested only 12.35%. I hope my feed guy wasn't shorting me on protein pellets, but I have been paying for a 16% mix. I realize that the low % could just be a portion that didn't get mixed but then that would mean that somewhere else in the mix it would have to test 20% protein to balance out to 16%. That much difference would apt to be detected visually in the absence and/or over abundance of pellets. I am suspect.
 
Thanks Rick for steering me to Doc Shipley. Wished I would have known of him and what he can do/does 3 years ago.

I feed around 95 deer and go through 3 ton every 3 to 4 wks depending on the time of year.
 
Sandridge, I live in east central Illinois and get my feed delivered fron Dekalb Illinois. I use Max Rax feed and I really like it. They make it there at Dekalb feeds. Talk to Shane Horrocks, he and his dad own Max Rax and you can`t beat their service. His number is 254-580-3220.
 
Greg said it! Shane has been instrumental in making up my feed formula for me. He can set you up with some of the best feed on the market. Great people at MAx RAx!!
 
Maxrax is a great feed and Shane has always been there to answer any questions I've had.I'm not one of the big time breeders but Shane has gone out of his way to stop and check on my deer anytime he comes thru.
 
I know some farms that feed Max Rax and if I was going to feed bag feed that is what I to would use. I thank Max Rax is the BEST !!!
