Most farmers will make sure you get a bred doe or you will get fawns out of their herd this year and they will rebreed her for you next year. The only exception is fawns and i guess nobody can do that. All you can do is talk to alot of farmers and trust your guts on the person you are talkin to.I just started this game also and trust me i did my homework. There is only one person that i would think twice about buying a deer from and i talked to alot.Trust me when i say most deer farmers are a different breed of people and they will make sure you are happy with your purchase. You will be smart to take advice and use it for your venture!!!

Blood work is total seperate thing. When you buy a deer from a farmer they have to be certified for tb,cwd that comes from the state people. You really need to get ahold of a farmer in your state and get the ins and outs of this thing. They will help you!!!!

If you buy a deer from someone in Oklahoma, you dont have to get paperwork, you only need the TB. Bruc and CWD health sheet if you bring deer from out of OK or if you want to prove status. That is something else you need to decide. If you plan to sell deer to other breeders, you need to buy only from CWD monitored herds that are Bruc and TB certified, this will allow you to sell out of state. If you do not plan to sell amy deer, you dont need to keep track of it, the deer then are called unmonitored and only can be sold in state and mostly just to be hunted.

You have to understand, this is a rather small industry and everyone talks. Most people will bend over backwards to make sure your happy. I would say that 90%+ of the breeders are totally honest and will work to make you happy. If you are nervous about a deal, make them put it in writing and both of you sign it, if they refuse to, then you know! Most will be willing to write up a "contract", its actually the best way, then there is none of those times where someone forgets what was said in February when the fawns are born in May.

Something else.....do you have your Oklahoma deer liscense yet? You cannot buy a single deer until you have applied for the liscense and had your pens inspected by the Oklahoma Ag dept. All the info on the OK Ag Dept website, also the rules to bring deer into OK from other states is on there, also the list of states you cannot bring deer from is on there.

If the man tells you she's pregnant by giving you his word then she is. If not he will make it right. If he don't, hunt him down and stick a fork in his eye.:D

The real question here is do you trust the guy you are buying the deer from. I can tell you, that you should be put at ease 10 minutes after you talk to him .Is there anyone around you that has delt with this farmer before. What would make you think she may not be bred or why would you question it
