how much land is needed?

we got into one of those crazy discussions around here.....at times they get pretty wild. what would be the minimum amount of land needed for someone to raise a few deer? what would be a good amount to start out with ? a buck and 3 does? would 2 1 acre pens suffice?



this is what happens when it Miller Time under the shed..........lol my dad says you need a minimum of 50 acres......i say not
 
With two acres you could easily put 4 pens on it. 50 acres would be nice, but way more than needed just for raising deer.
 
2 one acre pens would hold alot of deer. 8-10 bred does each easy. 1/2 acre pens are fine also. If they are calm. Depends on deer
 
well, i am just looking at high fence pricing and just had a heart attack......haha do u really need to go 8 feet? i know, quit laughing tee hee
 
I just built a fawn pen and am having a disagreement about sq footage someone help settle this please.The pen is 138ft across front 158 down one side 164 down the other side and 123ft across the back please tell us the sq feet of the inside of this pen!!!!

oh i have already figured that out.. lol but it is an instant "love". and love dont come cheap....:D:eek:
 
yeah i was interested in having just a few head. no big set up like you pros, just mainly hobby....nothing like sittin out on the back deck watching nature on nice fall afternoons. I'd be happy with a few does. and i am in love with the Pieds....just beautiful. I got a pic of a Pied doe that is in our woods here last year..I call her Ghost with her white face
 
rehabgal, you need to contact your state deer farming organization for answers to some of these questions. They would be very helpful in giving you the regulations and finding the cheapest place to buy supplies. The regulations are different from state to state, so you should be getting the information that pertains to Alabama. Two rolls of fencing would give you a pen roughly 125 x 200. That would be plenty big enough for just a couple of deer.



I have lots of piebalds, let me know when your ready for one.
