How soon do you tag your fawns ?

How do you tell them apart until they are tagged.

Thanks,

Daren We use different colors of fingernail polish on ears as soon as we find them. But they are usually tagged after 24 hrs and all are tagged by two days old both bottle feds and the ones that remain with Mom. Just what works for us here.

We tag them at 6 to 12 hours old. The first time we catch them give them their shots.

We check pens every day and tag them when we find them. We use small tags that will be replaced later when they are older. Since we typically have does that are all the same pedigree in a pen, all the fawns will have the same pedigree so don't have to worry about which doe they came out of. We also chart how many fawns per pen so we know when all have delivered.

Darren. To tell them apart you have to turn them over. Most people see the black spots where antlers grow and think it a buck fawn but the girls have the same markings.

We tag and give shots at 12 hrs, then the ones we want to bottle feed go back on mom for another 12 to 24 hrs

I'll try and watch them real close for the first 24 hrs ,to make sure they get clostridium from mom,

Last year i had a buck fawn that was so small he could'nt reach mom when he was standing on all fours, after a couple hours she started to lay down with him so he could nurse

After about a week he could reach her
