I own a feed company. Performance Feeds LLC. 18 yrs livestock nutrition experience. Part time deer farmer.

Engineer - designed industrial paint finishing systems and aluminum extrusion equipment for 11 years. Recently changed jobs and design heat treat ovens and aluminum melting equipment now. Just started deer farming a couple years ago.

I have been in the environmental field for 22 years. I am the operations manager for a drilling company that installs methane gas collection wells in landfills across the United States. I travel everywhere all the time and try to get to meet as many of you guys as possible. So I could be coming to a landfill near you.

Tina, Rick (my son) and I have been in this wonder world of deer farming since 2009. In 2009 Tina told me I could go on my 1st ever Elk hunting trip or start raising deer. Boy I am glad I didn't go on that hunt.

After playing collegiate football at Penn State and pursuing a professional football career in the U.S. and Germany for several years, I was a counselor at a psychiatric hospital for 2.5 years. In 2006, my wife Ginger and I founded Play by Faith ministries. As of May of this year, I am the Lead Pastor at Nittany Bible Church (www.nittanybible.com), just outside of State College, PA. Since taking on the position of pastor, I have backed out of the campus ministry side of Play by Faith and now focus solely on "A Higher Pursuit", the outdoor division of Play by Faith. I also began guiding hunts this fall at a hunting preserve owned by close friends of ours. My wife and I have two beautiful daughters and a teenage son we adopted from Ukraine this past February. God has truly been good to us!

I have worked for Reeman Farm Equipment for almost forty years, started out as mechanic, then service manager, and now equipment sales. We are a Case IH dealer. Seen alot of change in the farming business over the years some good some bad. Been in deer business for 6.5 yrs. However there is not any other business I would enjoy as much as these 2.

I graduated college in May and currently work for the PA Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer. I have been raising deer since 1999 and recently took over the farm from my father.

I've worked at Kemps ice cream plant for almost 5 years as a mix maker and also in the reviving bay unloading trucks. I've had Whitetails since 1996 and have loved every day of it.

We raise deer and run a hunting operation which is our full time job. We employ two people full time as well. Prior to becoming full time deerfarmers, Gary worked for the State in various environmental and regulatory positions. Jane also worked for the State for 22 years before retiring. We've been raising deer for nearly 17 years and now this is not a job but our life! Being a full time deerfarmer and hunt preserve owner hasn't always been an easy way to make a living - or even a way to make a living at all - but we've somehow managed to carry on and now our business supports several families. Somewhere down the road we'd like to sell our business to someone who will continue it -

Phillip and Eldon, its probably a good thing they are so strict. Im sure they have a very good reason why they have you shower in/out of work.

I've been raising pigs for one company or another for 15 years. I wasn't complaining about the biosecurity-I need it for my livelyhood as much as everyone upstream does.

I was a teacher and coach until I had my children then became a domesticated engineer :) my husband is a radiologist and this is his dream that became my job:eek: we have been in the business one year. We bought our first deer at the Chupp Sale this time last year, now we are there selling :) It is hard work but the fawn season was wonderful. Check us out we... are new in this but learn something everyday. This site has been so helpful and fun.

I work at the Prototype Integration Facility at Redstone Arsenal. I take pride in protecting our Warfighter with the most advanced technology in the world. Can't tell you much more than that.

I was raised on a dairy farm and worked full time on the family farm until I was 22. Since then I have been a custom chemical applicator (5 years), worked briefly in the animal health industry, built wash machines for a bit, and I am currently employed at RADA Manufacturing making aluminum handled kitchen knives. (10+ years). Still help on the family farm when needed.

Are the knives pretty good quality Gaylen? Im always looking for some good knives in my kitchen as I love to cook. Thats about a full time job for me with a 16yr old and 14yr old boy. They will eat you out of house and home! My 14yr old is taller than me, and I am 6ft5!!! It is nice to see so many people still helping out on the family farms. Thats what America was built on, the good ole fashion values you get from working on a farm.

ps. keep adding in everyone, its great to hear what everyone is doing. Look how diverse all us deer farmers are!

Well it does show that yes the little bit of money that is made is nice but for the most the folks that replied are into it for the love of the animal. I dont think anyone else but Russ Jr that replied does this as a full time deer business. Matt works in the different parts of the industry to make a living. Now i would like to know if there is anyone on this thread that is not now...or have ever been...a deer hunter. I would bet there will very few deer farmers that have never hunted the whitetail Deer!!!

Thanks for doing what you do Chad

No problem Roger. I am a deer hunter past and present. But I will say that in the past two years my hunting has faded a little. Part of the reason I hunt is to watch deer. Now I get to not only watch them anytime I want, I can interact with them. I guess I have turned into a fair weather golfer when it comes to hunting. When the conditions a perfect I will get out there. I just don't feel that urge to beat the woods like I used too. Actually i'm hunting all weekend. Bucks are already chasing does here in the land of Dixie.

The past 4-5 years I have been full time on the elk farm. It seems im one of the few full time deer-elk farmers on here. Guess im luckier then I thought. Before the I went full time elk I was a shop foreman at a wood shop where we made custom kitchen, bathroom, bars and offices. I loved and wish I still did wood working but I can't complain.

At Wild Rivers Whitetails we all work exclusively on the farm. There are a total of 4 of us, Gary, Jane, Gary's two brothers Randy and Jim. During the hunting season Gary's brother Kevin helps out as well. All of the guys are deer hunters and so are the kids.

I guess that was my bad to make that statement.. Sorry jane.. Now that i think about it i missed sam also and i know there is a couple more. My idea was to see if most fell in love with the animal through hunting before they started raising deer??? I myself have been hunting forever and before i had deer i was out in the woods and fields every second i could. Now my drive has slowed down a little and the class of buck i will harvest has gone up. It seems like now if a buck comes out i kinda guage him by the bucks in the pen... Nah he is to small i have bigger at home... Yes i am shooting less bucks every year but when i do take one he is a good one..But its gettin harder every year!!!
