I got a five yr old rolex doe that's had scours for weeks. She has no worms, not coccidiosis or E. coli. Shes not lethargic, eats more than any deer I have and is a frame of bones and her stool is like water. She also grinds her teeth and licks the fence constantly. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm willing to try anything. Thanks

I have had the best luck treating animals like this with Micotil 300 two treatments every 48 hours and worming with Valbenzen.  Stool is hard in 24 hours and pellets at 48 hours.  This drug will kill people so be careful with it.  Been using this treatment since Micotil was made and have found nothing that will work better.

I had a two year old buck doing the same thing, was trying to get some Micotil when my vet said to hit him with a double dose of Safeguard two days in a row. I did it and he quit the scours. I have no idea why Safeguard would work like that as he had NO worms, and Safeguard should NOT treat a bacterial infection.

Try it , you have nothing to lose and can still try the Micotil..just be very careful with Micotil as it can be fatal to humans.

dtala,

Safeguard will treat coccidiosis very well and that might be why it cleared up.  Usually the scours will be dark to red as there is blood in the stool.  But your right try safeguard first.

Thanks jack and dtala,

I will try both, I treated her with corrid and safeguard with no improvement but didn't double the dose. Could selenium deficiency cause this?

I don't think a selenium deficiency would cause this.  I do know I get one or two deer doing this every year and the shot program I use with Micotil and valbenzen does clear up my problem.  One would not know if we have the same problem but I would try my program as you have treated with the other stuff.

We have a yearling doe that has the scours and nothing has seemed to work...

dtala - What form of Safeguard did you use and how did you administer?

Jack - Could you share the dosages of Micotil and Valbenzen you used?

Really appreciate the info.

SweetDoe,

Micotil is 1 1/2cc per hundred  I use Valbenzen on the heavy side as it is safe to overdose.  I would give her 8 to 10 cc and do her again in ten days.  Valbenzen is easy to give on her grain for the second time.  Just mix the dose on a small amount of her grain.  Let is dry out overnite and feed the next day.  Most deer will eat it right up.

Blue Sky whitetails is the guardian your are speaking of a probiotic? I spoke to Michael at c &e and he said it was a probiotic. also he said to just use the regular dose? We have been having this same problem with a 2 yr old doe on our farm

I just gave my three year old with chronic scours a 1.5cc shot of Micotil today. I will let you know how it works.

my three year old buck has stopped with the scours and is forming much firmer stools. Second shot of Micotil yesterday.

You must have the same problem I have had.  I'm glad it's working for you.  Did you dose with Valbenzen also??
