I agree. It's very easy to have a discussion taken completely out of context and used in a negative manner.

Russell what are your thoughts regarding this idea..........I personally am afraid to post anything any more for fear it will give the anti's some ammo. How could we have an area that we absolutely without a doubt no is accessable to deer farmers only?

I see several problems / challenges with making limitations to this website as proposed.



1. How do we define a deerfamer... are we not going to accept elk farmers, reindeer farmers, or others cervid farmers?



2. What about all those people who want to join the industry and are doing research and getting opinions? If we cut them out, you are shooting yourselves in foot by not growing the industry.



3. One of the purposes of this website is to educate and make the general public aware of the many good things our industry does, and how it has many economic benefits. What other website will take over that function?



4. As I see it, Deerfarmer.com is the only truly independant and international information source on the cervid industry. Although I support the industry, I am not behodden to any particular interest group or organization. Making it a "private" website goes against this purpose.



5. Finally, the greatest concern I have is how will I be able to ensure that everyone currently registered or wants to register is a "deerfarmer?" That will take a lot of work, time and effort on my part, and I still probably won't get it right. Heck, even deerfarmers on here disagree on a lot of things ... so I don't want to be put in a position of being a referee.



So unless someone has practical solutions to these issues, things will probably stay as they are. The Deerfarmer forums are a useful resource that have survived for 11 years now. I expect them to around for quite a while yet.



Just think before you post, and use the Members' only forum for some of the more sensitve topics. Let's not let fear of the anti's keep us from continuing to exchange / share useful information, learning from each other, and debating the important issues affecting the cervid industry.

My thoughts exactly Russell, When we start doing those type of things they will just find another way around those limits. We should all realize as hard as we try there are snakes in the grass outside our ranks and among us as well!

i agree members only with a check to see if you really do raise deer i had a gentleman send me a pm to remove a post i made because he felt that what i was saying is what is helping the antis to close down ranches in north dakota i m with you dd i quess i should just shut my mouth and stay off the forums to

Cant hide what we are doing.If you believe what you are doing is right then it does not matter what others think.Be proud of what you do,do the best for your animals and your farm and the rest will fall in place.If everyone uses their head and think about what they say and do before they do it we should be fine......I hope!!!!!

I'd say for now just let Russell or myself know (through Private message) if there are any posts or threads that you feel should be moved to the Members Only Forum and we can check it out.
