As another Christmas rapidly approaches, I find myself reflecting upon where we are as a society. Economic struggles have laid many Christmas trees bare. The familiar ring of Salvation Army bells has been unfamiliarly silent this season. What’s up with that? Even the offensive, politically correct salutation “happy holidays” has been far less prevalent than normal; people just say nothing.
When I was about 10 years old, I got to play “Mary” in the school Christmas play. My brother Tom was a baby at the time, so he was selected to play Jesus. Looking back now, that was a very important day in my life. It help etched deep in my heart the true meaning of CHRIST in CHRISTmas as an impressionable young girl.
Growing up in a large family with limited resources I knew what it felt like going without many material things at Christmas time! We know that is exactly what is happening in our country as we speak, there will be many families going without even the most basic of human needs.
As a young child I was given the greatest of gifts; my God, my family and my friends. There was absolutely no monetary cost for them at all. The gifts of Faith, Hope, and Love are more precious and lasting than gold and silver. These will go with me forever and cannot be lost by a worsening social, political, and economic system!
With the cold and snowy weather upon us; I thought I would share pictures I took at our July 2009 Summerfest Event. Many pictures where you will see faith, hope, and love this cold snowy Christmas season.
I wish you and all your loved ones a blessed CHRISTmas!
