Hi everybody,

I am new to deer farming and have completed two pens on my ranch. I have purchased some deer that are going to have fawns by August and need to build my Fawn pens up by the barn. I have two barns on my place one of them is a new 30 by 45 that my alley way goes up to. This will end up being my working facility. The second barn off to the side of the new one is a 12 by 24 with loafing sheds off both sides. I want my fawn pen to be incorporated with this small shed. This way i can build fawning pens under the shed roof. Whatt size fawning pasture should i have? Should i split it and have two different pastures? One pasture for each loafing shed? My idea is to keep the fawns in small pens under the shed roof until they reach a certian age and then let them into the pastures and graze. From that point work them in to my larger pens. I would also like some ideas on the pens under the shed roof as well. I'm in Texas just south of Dallas in a small town called Ennis. This forum has helped my alot in the construction of my Deer Farm. Thanks for all your help.

Spilt Creek, I'm just down the road from you in Marquez (near Centerville). If you have any questions or want to talk, I'm always more than happy to help. My number's on my website.

Thanks Guys. I have a good idea of what i want to do. I just want to know what size most of you have for your fawn pens once you turn them out to feeding. Michael are you talking about The Non-Typical Ranch?

Eddie, Here at the Non-Typical we use a 15x45 pen. We prefer a bigger pen, 44x60 with one round end. We can't do the bigger pens because of numbers. Are barn will hold 200 head. Any time your lost in west Tx. look us up, your always welcome! We have a state of the art facility that every deer farmer should see! We are extremely proud of what we are building out here and love showing it off! Again you are all welcome. ZZ

ZZ,

Thanks for the information. You guys do have a real nice place. I saw you on TV a few weeks ago on Keith Warren Deer and Wildlife Stories. I have been recording all the shows and watch them a few times each. I have picked up a lot of ideas from these new shows.
