Thanks for listening lol

I think we all get that way. It seems to get better the more times you do it though. I seem to learn a new trick every time. Good luck, we pull ours Wednesday and AI Friday. My kids do not like this Halloween schedule we are on, but I look forward to the day after.

Rick, I feel for ya! ;)

This will be the 1st time we haven't A/I'd since we started in 2002................And I don't miss it at ALL! :)

Best of Luck!

I hear ya Brad. My wife said " So you're gonna miss trick or treating with the kids?" Well honey...not unless it's at 4am lol

Wayne...Hope i get there soon man. This yrs fawns should give me a breeder or two. this yrs ai should if last yrs didnt. Of course it takes yrs to REALLY KNOW

You should be nervous anytime you run your animals through the handling facility, if you aren't nervous you probably don't actually care for the animals the way you should! That is just my opinion!

I don't get nervous anymore and YES I do still care. But they also aren't worth $20k or $50k each anymore either. But I still want the best for my animals. Heck I recently moved 5 bucks to the buyers place to be hunted and I felt guilty. Yes, I still care for them.

I don't get nervous running my does though the handling facility. I LOVE running them through and i LOVE the hands on part of it. My nerves are from wondering WHO and WHAT will take to ai. My herd is very calm and trained through the handler. They don't crash fences or give me a reason to be nervous about that running them in. DOES that is. They know the routine. Bucks no way will i run them in unless absolute emergency

True statement!

You are not alone!  We have ONE opportunity each year to improve our herds as we see fit.  Some have thousands of dollars tied up to take their herd to the next level.  Plus, working deer in general is very stressful on us, because we know that it can be stressful on them.  Again, completely normal.

Like Roger, I don't get too worked up anymore, but we've been doing this for quite sometime now.  But that doesn't mean I don't get anxious when I think a particular girl has been "out" too long or if she's had some added stress in some way.  We have a very efficient system here.  Run them into the dark room, syringe, and leave them alone until they are out.  I can tell you that my stress as well as the stress on the deer has decreased dramatically since we started using BAM several years ago.  Normal time from syringe to sleep is 4-7 minutes.  Reversal time is nearly always less than 10 minutes for them to be sternal, on their feet, and fairly coherent.  Can't say that about telazol/xylazine and tolazine days!

ai COMPLETED today. didn't go too bad except for dropping a straw on the ground that was covered with straw. I found out the hard way why they are called straws  196 day countdown begins

Michael, I have a couple questions please.

1) Do you syringe them in your dark room.

2) And am I reading this right are you using Bam to lap AI?

3) How big is your dark room?

4) How many deer you put in your dark room at one time when you Syringing them?

5) How do you keep track of the ones you Syringe so you don't get the same one twice?

The last two years, we have used T/X mix and given it to the does in the vein while they are in the deer handler. They are out in 5-10 seconds. If one does not go out in 30 seconds, we bump her. It is great and removes stress on the does and us. Once you try it, you will not want to do it any other way. I would assume BAM is the same way.

We have gotten 80% conception AI -ing in the handler without drugging doe.

Brad, Do you use the same amount even though you put it in the vein? And where do you inject it ?

Bell, Are you doing ******l AI?

Hi Cassie,

1 - yes we use a dark room to syringe

2 - yes. we have used Bam for the past 3 years to AI... works fantastic!

3 - dark room is roughly 2.5'x7'

4 - normally we syringe 2-3 adult doe at once, then right after syringing we bump them through the shoot an into another room so we can free up the dark room for the next group.  We've had them go out so quickly with Bam that we weren't able to push them through the shoot.  Just had to wait for them to lay down in dark room and carry them out.

5 - with only 2-3 does being syringed at a time it's pretty simple to keep track.  I wear a green headlamp that helps me see who's who.  You could also have someone keeping track outside of the room by calling out the tag #'s of who's been syringed.

Hope this helps.

Here's my next question...i personally did the ai on them. How freakin hard do you have to push to get in the cervix?

Next ...in my research i saw some studies where they used oxytocin to make the cervix dilate and easier to penetrate. Has anyone here ever done that?
