Hey Steve,
Thanks for the positive comments on New Image. You did jump the gun just a little so I guess I’ll go ahead and announce what just happened.
I just got back from the top 30 and want to congratulate all the sellers. It was quite an auction. Prices seemed very strong to me! I enjoyed visiting with everyone and wish I could have got to visit with everyone else! I always make it a point to go and see the bucks that have the industry buzzing. In person, some look bigger, some look smaller, and of course they are always a few big ones you didn’t even know existed!
Last year at the top 30, I really liked 3 bucks. Cardiac Kid, Grand Canyon, and a buck named Buster that scored 444. Nobody said much about Buster but I made it a point to cruise by him and look at him about a dozen times. I just couldn't get over it. Here was a 444 inch buck that was even, wide, had long tines all coming up from the beams, had round LONG LONG beams that wrap around, and all his points came to a point at the end. He had super mass and just looked like the buck most hunters would dream about. ONLY SUPERSIZED! I didn't say much about him but kept telling myself that I REALLY need to find out more about this buck.
Over the next couple months I talked to the owner and watched the sales. During one sale a son from the buck was sold and I was the high bidder. Mr. Reddinger the owner of Buster had decided to no sale him (I don’t blame him a bit). So I picked up the phone and called him right them. We talked about Buster for a while and after listening to some of the descriptions of the sons he was producing I was convinced that I needed to keep this buck in my radar. Of course, like most deer farmers I got busy and sidetracked and before long it was Summer.
I’ll never forget when I read the announcement about a buck the Walks had purchased named “New Image”. It didn’t take me long to click on the video and recognize it was “Buster” Only now he was even bigger! He was wider, had more mass, the gorgeous open look, and carried it all like it was nothing. I knew after seeing his video from last year and then his antlers at the top 30 that he was big, REAL big!
Over the next few months I started talking to both Bill Reddinger and the Walks and let them know that I was REALLY interested in this buck and really wanted to use him in our program. The Walks have been so kind and easy to work with. I just want to say “thank you” to them for the opportunity!
I am pleased to announce that I am the new owner of the semen rights to New Image outside of Texas. This buck is REALLY Special and will help anyone’s program. And I mean anyone’s! His antlers speak for themselves. When I saw them at the sale Thursday I thought he was the biggest and best looking buck there. There were some great deer there. But his combination of overall size and width along with his open typical look is simply amazing! Add that to the fact that he carried his antlers all the way through the velvet rubbing process and beyond clinches it for me.
We often throw out large numbers like they are easy to obtain. It still takes a heck of a buck to score 400 much less 500. I bought almost 10 shooters that the owners thought might make 400 only to have them come up way short. It’s a tough hill to climb! And 500 takes some serious bone!. There are a few bucks out there that will make it. They are some massive beasts and I really like them. I would love to use any of them in my program and plan on doing so. But New Image is different. Here is a buck with a typical frame, easy to see main beams, and can be scored as a typical buck. And he gross scores 528+ and has around 80 sharp points!
As Russ told me “Breed him for typical score he’ll probably produce the biggest bucks, breed him as a non-typical and he’ll produce the biggest bucks. Either way, your hunters will love them all”.
E-mail me if you are interested in semen. I am just now finalizing the price structure!
Thanks again to the Walks!
