Recently, I witnessed Nobel sell on the internet for $220,000+ dollars. After reviewing his pedigree, and doing resaerch on his passdown, my question...

With the state of the market this year, how the hell can you make money off of this purchase????

I'm not wanting to start crap, but I dont understand...AT ALL.

I he produces shooters at 3 years of age that average 180", how many years will it take too make your money back?180" shooters are bringing around $2500(I Guess),so someone please explain.

(90) buck fawns @ $2,500 = $225,000.00

(100) straws of semen @ $2250.00 = $225,000.00

wont take long

To get 90 buck fawns, you will need to breed 180 does with a 50/50 buck doe ratio. Not to count the death loss of getting them to shooter age. If you breed to 20 does a year it will take 9 years to get those fawns.

I would be afraid to buy based on "future" semen sales based on all the new super yearlings ever year. $2250 will not hold up forever. What did it sell for on W.E. last time?

Remember some people have money to spend. Some of us don't! If you are looking to get into the high end breeder market, sometimes you make a splash to get your name out there. Marketing is sometimes more important than what you will make off a certain purchase. I don't have $225,000, or even and extra $2,250 to spend, but if I had some extra I would be buying more high powered does and semen. Some would say if you don't move forward you are moving backwards. If you don't think Noble will produce, than you must think the Walks don't know how to produce deer. I don't think any of us small farmers would pass on anything that he said would work if we had the money. The time to buy stock is when the market is down!!

Between singles, stillborns, and deaths he will still have to cover 180 does.

Thw Walks owned half of him for one year. If he was a super producer, that they ARE known for buying, them why the sell?

My main idea on this is....The difference in breeder prices and shooter prices are B.S.

I think the high end breeder market is just "money swapping".

Someone who gets it! :) Matt, you are sooooo right! I don't understand why people are struggling with this idea. It is like they would rather wait until the prices are back up again before they buy new blood for their herd.

Every auction has some animal that sells and some bidder later says, "I should have went higher on the animal."

I think in another year people are going to be saying, "I can't believe I didn't buy deer last year when prices were down."

Jay, I am just guessing here, but maybe the Walk's feel like they used Noble for a year and have enough doe fawns that will be entering the breeding program next year that they don't need him any longer. I mean not all bucks are used to produce sons, but rather to produce daughters that carry "the look" that the breeder wants in their herd. Now that they have (again assuming here) a bunch of doe fawns they are done building that aspect of the look into their herd, and it is time to move on. Again just guessing.

Also they have a bunch of big bucks on the farm. Not everyone can be used as a breeder. Eventually you have to sell or shoot some of them.

WOW this could get ugly. Its really simple the highest price you can get for your deer is what its worth. Selling Noble was just a great move for them if I was in a position I would have bought him and so would a dozen other guys. There is no reason to be mad or angry at anyone who sells a animal or for what amount they sell for, thats between them i dont think the price should have been made public because of this right here IT IS NOBODIES BUSINESS

The deer market is like any other market, when it is way too scary to buy, that is when you buy. How many of you on here are kicking yourself in the butt for not putting more money into the stock market back in February and March when it appeared the world was going to collapse. It hurt like hell but I did, and very proud of that move once again.

It has become very obvious that the DEER market is now a lagging indicator of where the economy is headed (meaning it is now taking a hit a year after almost everything else did). Now that the economy is on a rebound (slowly), the deer market will follow. You all have probably heard the saying (where the smart money is going) well the smart money went into the pockets of the smart farmers that sold their TOP does over a year ago, they saw this coming no doubt. When I got the first catalog for the Top Doe auction, I thought to myself this was coming, and it did.

Now is not the time to whine, now is when you buy.

Jeff

Jeff I agree. If I had the money I invested in this over the last four or five years I would be buying like crazy right now. But instead I'm still broke. It will come back just like everything else does.

Well if you guys are buying, buy a hunting ranch in Oklahoma, and then buy my shooter bucks. And what you pay for them will be NOBODIES BUSINESS. How bout it?

I'm done with this thread, I know whats going on...........

Hi there guys and thanks for the support here when I wasn't around. To explain why we choose to sell Noble is a little confusing but in short we purchased another buck for a lot more then Noble sold for and we needed the funds to go toward this new investment. We will be AIing Noble to some real good does and look forward to what he may produce in the coming years. Why was Noble the highest selling northern buck ever at auction and how does the investment make sense? Well only time will tell but I know I have had no problem making money with anything attached to this deer. The projected numbers by Reed are probably somewhat accurate but some details have been missed. First would be that it takes a great deer to produce a son that someone else would buy semen out of or purchase for a breeder. So by having Noble as a herd sire it could produce breeders not just $2,500 shooters. I know what I'm paying for breeders that I feel are beneficial to me and it would be an element that alone could pay for Noble. Also, what about the does that will come out of Noble.... We sold several does for $15,000+ or more that were bred to Noble or were daughters of Noble. This adds up quick. Also, Noble's sons have traits that most hunt ranches desire and could average a lot more than $2,500 across the board. Well, I guess I could go on and on but really some get it and some don't. That's what's great about a free trade market. We make our own bed to lie in and live with the choices we make. I wish I had more money and could have keep Noble for another year but the bank said no way. Best of luck to everyone this year and again thanks to the friends that have supported me here. Let me know where you guys want your free Noble straw sent too... lol:D
