O.S.U. Deer farming program

Hey everyone just wanted to get the word out that Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma will be conducting is Deer Farming program for the spring session starting Saturday Febuary 11, 2012.It coensides with the Whitetails of Oklahoma annual confrence.

The guest speaker will Mississippi State University Prpfessor Dr.Steve Demarais.

Dr, Demarais spent 15 years as a big game specialist in Texas prior to taking over the deer research program at M.S.U. Dr.Demarais has published over 75 technical papers as well as co- publishing an award winning book "Ecology and Management of Large Mammils of North America.

Steve is also Chair of the Southeast Deer Committee,Associat Editor of the Wildlife Society Bulliten.

Some of his topics will injclude:

Genitics in Deer Management

Harvest Strategies w/ antler restrictions

Aging & ScoringRecreational Hunting & Buck Movement Behaviors

The OSU Deer Farming Program is the only state university sponsered program in the country.There will be other University Professors lecturing on topics such as

State and federal regulations,feed and nutrition,semen collection and handling,EHD,Fawn Care,Herd Health and everything we all had to learn the hard wayContact

Say it aint so...........We have been trying to get Mississippi to allow deer farming since 2001 and now your're telling me a professor from MSU is going to teach deer farming in Oklahoma! I'm speechless!

Scott, Maybe he got tired of trying to convince the politicins in Mississippi about it! LOL Hope you guys get it changed I know how hard you all have been working on it! GOOD LUCK!

Scott thats funny! I mean that.I really never thought of it that way.I guess yall need to do some house cleaning.MSU has devoted time and money to studys on cervids for years.Someone there must be on our side.OSU is doing that right now and have for a couple of years now.We must support these programs to get to where we want to be and that is mainstream. I am not particularly fond of alternitive livestock it is our job to get the alternative label dropped. I have attended and believe me I wish I could have been exposed to the info when I began.

Skip, the reason I am confused is because I heard Mr. Demaris tell a fellow deer farmer he did not support our efforts. I guess he does support capitalism.

I dont know anything about that ,but thanks for the heads up.The more we spread the word the line will be drawn in the sand.We will have battles that we will have to take head on.Thats why we are organized there is strength in numbers.Thanks Scott I appreciate your candor.
