Please Help me-I have a question about my 5 week old baby doe. She is a big baby doe for 5 weeks old, standing 20 inches from the ground to the top of her back and weighing 16.5 lb.'s. She is Drinking 3- 10 Oz's of formula 3 times a day 8 hours apart. My baby deer eats all kinds of fruit, and greens and I bought her 2 different kinds of high end deer pellets, but I can’t get her to eat either one of them, she just turns her head and if I get one pellet stick into her mouth she dopes it out. I did have a couple of Cat fish food pellets in my pocket from feeding my fish and I gave her a couple of them and she ate them with no problem? Can someone Please tell me how do I get my baby deer to eat the deer pellets? I Thank you for any help you can give me. Have a nice week. Sincerely Sammie

any other ideas that I can try?

I tried adding a small amount of molasses on the pellets but my 5 week old baby doe didn’t like the molasses pellets. I ordered the calf mana and I will mix it with the deer pellets and see if that works. Does any one else have any other ideas that I can try? I Thank you all for any help you can give me with this problem I have. Have a great day, Sincerely Sammie

Calf mana??????

I got the Calf mana today and i tried giving it to my 6 week old baby doe and she still would not eat it just like the other 2 deer pellets i bought last week and the molasses trick. I even mixed it with the other deer pellets and nothing. Does anyone else have any ideas as to what I can do to get my baby doe to eat deer pellets? I Thank all of you that have given me a reply and ideas and to anyone else here that might have some other ideas that might work. Have a great week. Sincerely Sammie

Same problem here. Mine doe fawn is 11 weeks. She wouldn’t eat calf mana if she were starving to death.

dirt in a separate container?

Hershey you said if you're using a powder milk try sprinkling it over the pellets. continue to offer dirt on the floor with the pellets. Are you talking about having the dirt in a separate container along side the pellets? Thank you again for all your help. Have a great week. Sincerely Sammie

We transition our bottle fawns to dry feed by letting them have small amounts of Lucky Charms (just the cereal, NOT the marshmallows) when they get interested in solid food. It's a little easier for them to chew and digest. It gets them used to solid feed and they take to it quicker. We feed milk replacer to 10 weeks, release them in the pasture, and then only a bottle a day to 14 weeks.
