Hello everyone, I am sooooo confused !!!. I would like to buy a dart gun for my husband for our anniversary in late March and haven't a clue on which one to buy. I do know he wants the rifle no pistol. I researched a few and they have the air activated, cartridge fire and the gauged, not sure what all that means.. so many to choose from. The one I find that might be a good one is the model 386 rifle. All our deer are tame so getting close is not a problem. What is everyone else using. Need help figuring out which one I should get. :)
 
If they are all tame and you can get close you dont need a real expensive one. Mine are all very tame and I use the model 176 pneudart model. Its cheap and its very accurate with the open sights. It takes the little co2's.
 
Ok...they are all tame now...but will they all remain tame in the future of your business???



I would ask myself that before I made any investment. Mine all started out ''pistol worthy''.

Then, as my herd grew, and the attention each deer got thinned out, it became a challenge to dart them with a rifle.

Just an opinion...
 
Small herd with even semi tame deer would do fine with the 176 model. You can reach out and touch them with that gun and its power out to 50 yards is awesome. You can spend the $1200 plus or go with the $200 and get the same job done...On a small herd..If you thought you would be doing alot of darting or if at this time you can afford the top gun then i would do it. If you buy the xcaliber you will most likley never buy another gun.
 
I use the pump air dart gun and it work's fine. I would like to get the Xcaliber but have not yet.



Even your tame deer will soon learn what the dart gun is and they will try to avoid you when they see it. And when you have to dart 15 or so at one time even the deer you could pet the day before can become hard to get close to when you have a gun in your hand.
 
Wow! !!! I checked out the xcalabur that's a lot of gun But I think I'll keep it simple the 176 looks good price not bad. Clearveiw do you have Henry. Martin number or a web site.
 
I used a pneu-dart pump rifle for years before buying an Xcaliber and always managed to hit what needed hit. However, the Xcaliber gives me the confidence that I will hit what I am aiming at a lot farther away and therefore allows me to take much longer shots and get it done much quicker. I waited until we were making some money from our deer before buying the high priced Xcaliber and do not regret buying it. We just finished TB testing and I made two shots that I would never have even taken with my pump. (We had 4 deer to dart, the other 25 went through the chute).
