Questions about Feeding A Fawn

So new to this. I have a fawn that will be two weeks old on Sunday. She had colestrum (sp) for the first 24 hrs and then was on fresh goats milk for a week. Now she is on Land O Lakes Goat Milk Replacer and has been since Monday. I am giving her 5 oz w/ 1 tbs of yogurt 4 times a day. She is doing great she hasn't had the scours at all yet. Her poop is pelleted but is a pasty consistency. She is very active and takes her bottle VERY Well!!

My questions are:

1. Is there anything else that I should be feeding or giving her at this point. (She does have fresh water at all times and just last night started drinking that. She is peeing very well and on her own but I am having to make her poop which I do and every feeding.)

2. When should I start giving her pellets and will a goat pellet that is 17% crude protien work. She is in the house right now.

3. This morning there was a little bloody spot in her stool as well as a white mucus substance (the mucus has been there since day one.) Is this normal or should I worry.

Thanks so much for your time and for being patient with my many questions.

Sounds like your plan is working, the mucus is normal, on young fawns but should be clearing.slow on stimulating to poop always helps them to starting on own,i do twice a day morning and last feeding, i dont want feed battle but only my opinion, i think they like sweet feed better starting out.i dont think the goat has copper which is needed for deer.only my thinking and the protien is debatable.offer her fresh dirt bout all i can add, i think stools will get better.DC

Not sure why you were switching around like that with the milk choices. Switching can cause issues so try not to do that unless you have to. Especially natural milk to replacer, as that can be the hardest for the fawn to adjust to.

2 weeks old and getting 5oz 4x per day. I'm not sure if that is the correct amount at this point. Someone using Land O Lakes can answer that.

The yogurt at every feeding seems a bit much. Like DC says a small amount of fresh dirt in her area is good for her to nibble at also.

I assume you just mean the pellets are soft? Pellets in any just about any form are a good thing.

Sounds like she is doing well.

Some pellets or grains is a good thing. We use Calf Manna for doe fawns but not buck fawns.(should we need to bottle feed a buck fawn)

I would stop stimulating her for poo at every feeding. That may even dry up the poo pellets some.

At 2 weeks she should be eating grasses already also. Make sure she spends enough time out side in the yard.

Unless she has the runs or lots of blood, don't stress about it. A touch of blood is not so abnormal.

Have fun with it!
