Ryan Sabalow is preparing to release another part to his buck fever series. He is going to attempt to portray deer farming as costly to taxpayers. Ryan is trying to release his piece to coincide with the introduction of our preserve bill here in Indiana. It is coming when our legislature returns the first of the year. Sabalow went to Brakke's farm in Iowa and interviewed Tom and his lawyer. He will try to portray both Brakke's and Dan Yoder's situations as the same, costly to the taxpayers. We need a rebuttal response ready. His article will get nationwide press. Again, Ryan will try to paint our industry nationwide with a broad brush as a potential burden to taxpayers. We need to be ready with our response. Not a month later!

What about all the out of state money hunting preserves bring in? Or the taxes they pay!!! We preserve land. Dr.Kroll talks about that a lot. Instead of land being divided up into smaller and smaller parcels, we keep it together. Sometimes even put small parcels together again. We help preserve the "family farm". Years ago there weren't any Whitetails in many states And they had to be re-introduced with stock from places like Wisconsin. If that happened again deer farms would be able to offer healthy, disease free deer for restocking! We are small businesses, which every state should be encouraging!!

Yeah one would think that there would be a rebuttal wrote up showing how smart it is for the states to pay all these millions in taxpayers money to pay farmers after depopulation to stop the same CWD that other states are bringing into their states with all these elk relocation programs. Not even talking wind cave.

Or maybe show how a farmer in Wis,Iowa,or any other CWD hot zone can cut and sell the same CWD all across the country,in the form of grain and hay's that the states are spending millions to deer farmers and buying old deer farms and killing hundreds of animals to try and stop the same exact CWD!

I am sure smarter minds could make it sound much better but regardless, if a write up comes out of our camps, NADEFA, ACA 2 months after the fact. Well?

I wonder what Conservation Agencies cost taxpayers. I know in Missouri they receive about 110 million from taxpayers. Maybe Ryan can report that. This does not include the 40 million from licenses and permits.

Ryan wants legislation to include language that will allow deer farmers and preserves to be prosecuted, arrested, and heavily fined. This is direction he is getting from Senator Mike Crider and Kyle Hupfer. They want a way to set farmers up to prosecute and shut them down. They desperately want this language to be included in legislation. I hope that this time around our leaders will take a stand on this and not allow Crider to sabotage our bill with amendments once again. He also thinks quarantine violations should be dealt with much heavier fines. He will discuss the administration of the quarantine protocols in PA and those who have violated them along with the specific dollar amount of the fines imposed. He had handlers directing him in his previous buck fever pieces. Gene Hopkins, Senator Mike Crider, Doug Allman, Michael Spears, Jenny Sanders, Brandon Butler and Kyle Hupfer directed him to the people he went after in his previous writings. The stuff he wrote about the deer industry in those previous articles was often very scripted and did not originate from his own original thoughts or his brain. He was a puppet for his handlers. This article will be more in his wheelhouse. It will be up to us whether or not he is able to deceive the uninformed. This time we have been given a heads up before hand. For months some of us have defended our industry on a daily basis in sometimes heated debate and discussion with Ryan on social media. We have gotten to know his elitist liberal mind well. Let's not let him trick the dummies this time.

If it were me calling the shots, I would write up a rebuttal piece that clearly challenged the journalistic integrity of Mr Sabalow....He tries to portray himself as an investigative journalist, however he is anything but that when he takes information and twists it to fit his story...I have only read 1 or 2 pieces by him and can already tell that all he is interested in is stirring emotion in the reader no matter what he has to do to get that reaction..."Bleeding heart journalism" is not journalism...It's just a way for a fakir to sell some newspapers...

What would really get things going would be to get John Stossell involved.....He would have a field day with that Wind Cave stuff, not to mention blow Sabalow and his faux-truth reporting right out of the water with some true investigative work...

Just my honest opinion, it does not matter who writes what, but more of who gets it put where. The uneducated on these issues will believe what they read and firm their pinions from that. We need a great story published nation wide on all the front pages painting a picture of what we know deer farming is. We need to show how we care for the deer and understand their illnesses. Once the reader is drawn in, some easy to remember facts should be thrown in. I know many rebukes have been printed but they do not get the audience that the big front page articles do. I do not know how to get this done, but surely some one does. I cannot even get my local papers to respond.

SEVERAL times, he mentions "officials" and "scientists" as sources for his information.....He needs to be called out on who these sources are, what exact quotes they gave, and what scientific studies were used to verify claims made by those "officials"...This guy is nothing but a 3rd-rate sensationalist grasping at straws to sell some newspapers...

This is the weakest crap Ryan has written. It appears Ryan got on Deerforums.org and edited his article at the last second. He is all over the place. He will not get nationwide press with that. Maybe he needed handlers to write this time too. He quoted Brandon Butler who formally worked for the DNR under Kyle Hupfer here in Indiana. I can't believe he ignorantly blamed republicans for helping deer ranchers. That is sure to backfire on him here in Indiana when our legislation moves forward. Chuckles

"It ain't the deer farmers spreading this," said Shawn Schafer, executive director of the North American Deer Farmers Association. "It ain't the deer farmers giving it to wild deer. It's the poor deer farmers being the victims of these environmental problems."

Folks Sabalows little No fact and circumstancial  statements are being prepared to be challenged in court on multi levels. He is going to be directly held accountable for his misrepresentation and misleading information and  all damages done to any of your business operations. Its in the hands of people that are going to get this done for you. He is only the first of several that are going to be held accountable this year.

Sounds good but it needs to be shown..Loud and Proud  If the public..That has read and believed his lies..does not see him called out and his lies proven then it will be all for not. Needs to be up in lights.

Mike the media loves a great story especially when someone gets hauled into court for it.Its a sham when their credibility gets destroyed in public media.

Yeah well i sure hope its someone on the other team that gets the bad karma thrown at them for a change. I have heard it said by industry leaders that its best to work with states. Right!!!  We tried that and took the shaft and now closed for 5 years probably never to reopen. Now other states say they can test their Elk with a live test but they need to close those same borders to deer farmers to do business and their deer need to be dead. Right!!!

I sure hope 2015 see's some finally see the light and see that courts and lawsuits with lawyers showing all these double standards is the only way to get any positive.  Or how about something in public newspapers and such coming out before their lies instead of a little two paragraph piece trying do discredit some lies already put out there. People always believe what they read first and any rebuttal, regardless if we are right, is read by the public as our lies to try and cover our butts. Way past time to strike first with truths and facts.

Mike you or anyone else here in the deer farming business can press charges legally on Sabalow for slander, defamation and punitative damages. You can do it in your own state also. People are already prepping to do so. People should start acting on this instead of sitting on their *** and complaining about it. Its pretty easy.Nothing will get done unless you act on it.

At "first look" (Prima facie) it would appear that Government agencies are responsible for the "species jump" of scrapie from sheep to deer.

Introduce scrapie into the conversation & the vernacular instead of CWD. Just a thought.

Cheers Mate. I hope that the simple change in rhetoric will help to open a few eyes & see at "first look" what the cause of prions in deer was. I think It should be much easier for those who are not used to the esoteric language that is currently in play to see the link if folks just start calling CWD scrapie instead. Don't let up on the bureaucrats in the Govt departments who have failed badly in regards to good governance ether, once they are on the back foot, bum rush them straight out the door.

Happy New Years to yourself & all the good deer folk on this forum.
