Sexed Semen???

I am looking for any info anyone has on sexing semen.

I am hoping to draw my buck this fall and sex his semen.

Would I be able to draw him say end of Sept, and still be able to get the sexed semen back to use this AI season?

WHat is the cost to do this? ANd how many straws do you usually get back?

i sex seman in mid october, believe its like $7,500



you will loose some and even if its good enough seman needs to be high quality as not all is good enough to be sexed
 
I would suggest having a few bucks to draw on. You have to have an appointment setup ahead of time. If one buck shoots a low count or it is not strong, draw on another buck. Give Lisa a call at Sexing Technologies. She knows her stuff and can answer any questions you may have.
 
You will get fewer straws than a normal draw because they are separating it and it has to be really good quality. You will have to ask yourself if it is worth it - the cost of the draw, the cost of the sexing and then if you want to use it, most folks do Lap AI which is more costly. The price per straw to get sexed semen of course depends on how many straws you end up with - it isn't cheap.

So true and for $7500 he better be a heck of a producer on your farm or have what it takes to sell a few straws to recoup!
 
It also seems that semen prices overall are really down, but am not sure if that is the same with the sexed semen because haven't looked at any. W've had people contact us selling semen from huge deer for $100 a straw.
