two year old, has had runny stool for four months. He has lost a good bit of weight. He eats good.


 


fecal exams by a competent vet show no worms, coccidia, e-coli


 


have treated with safeguard, neomycin, last treated with gentimycian(with IV fluids). He is getting probios and goat probiotics. no change.


 


have not tried giardia meds...


 


any advise would be greatly appreciated and considered.

I get this in some deer every year.  Green runny poop.  The only thing I have every found to stop this is Micotil 300 given every 48 hours for three times.  After the first 48 hours the stool is hard and then turns into pellets.  A few have had it come back but another treatment has stopped the problem.  We give at 1 1/2cc per hundred pounds.  This is a dangerous drug to people and if you get some stuck into you go to the doctor ASAP as it will kill you.

Also consider feed. Too much starch in the feed will give them loose stools. Different times of the year can make a difference as to what you are feeding. You need to be consistent, but can adjust the amount of corn they are eating etc. seasonally. Also be sure your pellet doesn't have a high starch content, many do especially lower cost feeds.

It sounds like what I went through last fall. It was giardia.

Have a Johne's culture done on him. 4 months is a long time to have this problem.  I would get him in a pen with a couple others and change his diet from what its been and i would put the fiber right to him.

Dtala, Jack is right Micotil 300 will more likely than not fix the problem.........................But heed his WARNING...........


 


Inject or prick yourself with it and the odds of you..................Waking up DEAD!!! Are GREAT!

We had 2 bucks last year that had this problem tried everything you could imagine. The vet had know idea what was wrong with them. I gave 3cc micotil and 6cc pen 48 every two days for a total of three doses. They both were popping pellets within 24 to 36 hrs. The one it never came back but the other one just stays thin and keeps coming back all the time hes been going on a year now just about ready to give up on him at this point. Like they said it is really bad stuff be very careful when using it or you will end up on that Walking dead show!!! Good luck with him I know how you feel.

thanks guys, I have him on Flagyl right now, if it dosen't work I'll go the Micotil route. I've always stayed away from the Micotil because it is so dangerous.

Any updates on your buck? We have a Doe similar to this. Nothing touches it. Just curious, what does micotil do? It is a Pneumonia drug? Any thoughts?

Brad, haven't used the micotil. Partly because I was unable to find any locally and because he started doing better without it.


 


the buck started passing more solid poop, almost pellets five days ago after ten days on Flagyl and then double dose Fenbendazol(Safeguard) wormer, per vets advise. He still looks like H**L warmed over but he's active and eating. Keeping my fingers crossed.


 


I have no idea if the Safeguard helped at all as we found NO worms in his stool samples. My vet suggested the double dose as there is some evidence it treats bacterial infections. I don't know, but the pellets started right after I double dosed him with the Safeguard. It was NOT worms causing the probs though.
