Hi. I am wanting some sight barrier that is black and is really thick so that when a deer jumps on it there feet wont puncture or tear the material. I seen some at a farm years ago a man had and it was like really thick black plastic im talking like 1/4 inch thick or more I dont think a buck could even have gotten there antlers through the stuff.I have tried the knitted sight barrier and the landscaping fabric and neither kind works. This is for a special application where the deer will be confined in a smaller pen for week at a time and they like to jump up on it all the time.If anyone knows where to purchase any material like this please let me know. Maybe what he had used was a poly pond liner material like from a wastewater plant pond. If you know any excavating contractors around you see what they use, they may have some pieces that are to amall for them to use.

Hi, I was just responding to your reqquest for the black plastic. I bought mine from a company in Corpus Christi Tx called American Steel (361) 241-3270. It comes in 8foot by 110 foot rolls and weights about 300#. It is very durable and think and works great. You may also contact the Deerstore as I think they carry a type of black plastic as well. WT - we use the black tarp paper you put down on the ground prior to landscaping. It has worked out well for us in our pens.

wthollow, what you want is the 20mm or 30mm pond liner. I would recommend sticking with the 4' because no wind goes through it and that can be hard on your fences if you exerience heavy wind. If you put it 2' off the ground deer will not try to jump over it because they can't see what's on the other side.

The first photo is shows both the green Polyethylene shade cloth I sell and the black ground cover, Polypropylene, most landscapers use and some deer farmers also use on their fences. Notice the dead buck on the top right? the black ground cover does not tear, it shreds and wraps around your deer. The other photos are from some deer farms that have our green shade cloth applied to their fences. Sorry guys I havent had time to check this post the last couple days.I want to thank everyone for the information.Has anyone ever tried the 30mil or 70mil black deer barrier on the deerstore site.The 70 mil sounds like it might be heavy enough sent email to them to see if I could get a small piece of each one to check out and price per roll. I have used the black landscaping barrier and also the knitted sight barrier before and have lost a deer using both of the type of barriers hope this stuff works.Just incase anyone asks how i lost them using it. I have always used the landscaping barrier and they punture holes in it and start pulling on the strings of the barrier and eating it wasnt that big of a deal they would just pass it on through but once somehow my biggest buck pulled a larger piece off and ate the whole thing and he started acting sick and stopped eatng tried everything and died.I couldnt understand why he just died like that fine one minute sick another I cut him open and found the piece of plastic all waded up around grass hay etc in his stomach.I tried the knitted kind this year and thought it was going to work great because it didnt fray and come apart if it was puntured.But somehow along the bottom a long 2" strip of it tore right off maybe it was a defect but a piece of it was missing and a little while later one of my does started getting very lose stools and losing weight and died cut her open and same thing.Again thanks for the information.

We got a couple rolls of the 8ft. sight barrier off of Henry this summer. We got the green stuff. You can see thru it but not very well. In the summer it will put off up to 10 feet of shade. Even at noon when the sun is straight above it gives a couple of feet of shade. On our 10ft. wide alley way the shade cloth is only 10 ft apart from each other, you have to pretty much be standing right by it to see inside the alley. I put all the shade cloth on the out side of the fence. Our buck has put a lot of holes in it in one area where he was fighting with wild bucks thru the fence. But it doesn’t seem to rip at all. I really like it. I don’t know if I would put the 8 ft. anywhere other than the alley. I think 4 ft. would be better around the pin for privacy. The 8ft. seemed too much when I was mowing around the pin in the summer. I think it blocked the view of me to much and made them very uneasy. Just my thoughts. the picture shows what little you can see thru the screen.

Kyle, that looks good, did you burn the wind holes into it? could you email me a few good photos to use at my deer shows? You are correct, the 8' is best really in the alleys, the 44" or 68" is best everywhere else but that is a personal preferance I suppose.
