Silly question

I know this is going to be a silly question, but why do all the pics you see of deer (bucks) that people have are all in velvet? Very few show them in hard antlers. I like the looks of the velvetless antlers.

G'day S 44. Easy, they look bigger in velvet.Velvet is the most valuable deer product,(after hunting),so its often removed for sale.It is often good herd management to remove hard antler.Cheers Sharkey

G'day S44.About 50 days after the buttons drop & before calcium starts to be deposited the velvet sticks are cut. This is considered a surgical procedure as you are cutting major blood vessels. It requires a vet or a qualified & accredited lay person to perform this.Cheers Sharkey

We don't harvest any velvet, but often cut the antlers off as soon as they shed the velvet so the bucks don't **** each other. I like pictures where the velvet is coming off. Hard to get though, because they normally shed all the velvet in less than 24 hours.

I like seeing the deer in in hard horn after they have shed.We don't seem to get alot of those pics.

Ok, I get that they look bigger, but when are they scrored? In velvet or hard antler?
