I am finally getting some 3 year old bucks this year, i started 4 years ago and havent sold a deer yet. I am ready to sell 2 of my three year olds, i dont feel keeping them few more years would make a huge difference antlerwise, and I have the herd tb/bruc. test this fall and dont want to pay to test them. They are not big bucks, they might hit somewhere in the range of 125-150" this fall, but I also have an excess of 2 year old I would like to get rid of before the tb test to sell as stockers to a preserve, of these five i expect a range of 105-145" between them as some of these have better genes than the 3 year olds. I wanted to get some feed back on preserves on fair prices, I know the price way down because the economy and the excess numbers of them but i still dont have any idea what to expect to get for them. With the situation of the bad economy last year i would have thought more people could have only afforded the 100-150" hunt over the 200 and up" hunts because of the obvious price difference between them. I love my deer, despite the fact that they cost me about 20 grand + so far with no return income, LOL, I wish i could keep them all, but I have got to lower numbers, 19 is way to many to test. I have never been to an auction, but may I ask, would the PA fall auction be the best way to go about selling, or just listing on here? Thank you for your time

Well robert i hope you are not right but you are more than likley spot on.Me as a new guy has a good chunk of change invested in this deer thing.I thought about the exact thing you said when i started i went both ways.I bought some real high end stuff to try and mabey make something special and i bought some just good stuff to make shooters so either way i will have deer to move.I dont see a real big market in my area so i am going to be all tested so i can take them anywhere and it looks like that is what i will have to do,Take them to the perserve myself so i can move them.I think there should be at least one auction a year that would be for shooters only and at least there would be a chance for the new guys to list what they have to move.

Robert, and all interested in selling shooter bucks,

Let me respectfully take a stab at some helpful ideas using the tools we built.

1. Whitetail Exchange could list available shooter bucks by state and by farm name.

2. The Buck Channel could also promote shooter bucks by state and farm.

3. You the deer farmer could list prices contact and photos with the addition of video.

4. We could give you the code to have same info on Whitetail Exchange and the buck channel show on your web site.

5. We could E-mail every hunting ranch in your marketing zone a note showing what you have to offer.

6.Whitetail Exchange and The Buck Channel could do this for you as a flat fee and buyers could come directly to you to finish the sale no other fees.

I know how tough it has been for all of us but if we pull together and help we can get through the storm. Please respond with the good bad and ugly. Monday I'll meet with Todd and Richard to share this Idea and yours to follow.

Striving to serve,

Scott

I'm pretty sure there is a shooter portion to the Ohio sale every year. I have the avg. results from the 2008 sale. The lowest there were 130-140" bucks and they went for an avg. of 1200 - 1500. I'm guessing the 2009 sale was lower because of the economy. I just thought this might help you get an idea.

it`s relly not about shooters with me.all thow i have some shooters now id`e like to move.but, i know the price will be so low that i will deal with them my self.meat is on my mind.we could have a meat market, and a shooter market all at one time.i attend livestock market three time a week in my area.goats, sheep, calfs, hogs and so on.the farmers come to buy animals to take home to raise.the butchers come to buy butcher animals goats, lambs, sheep an so on.there is a market for these animals.people are hungry for deer meat also.i get calls all the time an it is better for you then the above.i also attend the mt.hope auchion in mt.hope and they sell all kinds of deer, elk, red deer, fallow deer all sizes of antlers no problem .people buy to raise or butcher an the animal raisers get a fair price for there stock.i just sold thirteen sheep and got a really good price at my home town auction. i said all of the above to say,i think this could be done thru the deer farmers ***.just set up a time a place this fall deer only.a shooters and butchers market. in the beginning altoona johnstown auction,i know i was there.they sold.fallow deer, red deer, some excotic deer munjaks and white and brown fawns, an you didn`t have to belong to the 20-30 club.gentlmen,we need a vito sale for the little deer farmer.word will get out if this happen. the butcher man will attend.and the little guy that want to start up a hobby.if they want better deer go else were.i use to deliver deer to the reserve at a great loss .i can now take them to a butcher shop if the price is rite.lets push the deer market an try something new this fall.

Robert,

Lets look at costs to meat market

1. shipping doe to butcher $50

2. cwd testing $75

3. caping $50

4. meat processing $75

5. marketing $20

total meat market costs aprox. $270

average cost per cut up # of meat $3.40 per #

profit to feed deer?

profit to raise the deer?

profit to sell meat?

I'm sure my numbers are wrong but the attraction to build hunting market should be given more effort IN ACTION this year by all.

How much would this flat fee be?

Curtis,

Thanks for spending time on the phone today after review with Todd and Richard we have decided to add shooter buck section to Whitetail Exchange, Quest and The Buck Channel. We will charge a flat rate of $100 per year for posting your shooter bucks photos video and pricing contact info. Buyers will have option to contact sellers directly or submit offers on line.

This should help get the most exposure price and profit for the deer farmer and for the hunting ranches they will now have more options when the need for stockers increase.

Open to any thoughts,

Scott
