We killed a deer 2 weeks ago with very soft antler, almost rubbery. you could dig into them with you finger nails. Any ideas what would cause this? It appeared to be a 2 year old.

We did not take pictures. As a matter of fact we left him in the woods. I was afraid something was wrong with him. He did not look healthy and that is why I killed him. I did not know the antlers were soft until I shot him.

Not to sound like a but head but you should have taken him to someone to be checked so if there was something wrong he didnt pass it on to other deer or wildlife

Yeah, they probly would have came out and shot every deer in a ten mile radius.

That was my thought exactly. I had watched the deer in this field regularly and he was the only one that did not appear healthy. I could not find any signs of injury but something was wrong.

since this was a thread about a deer with some rack deformity or illness, i merely commented on a strange one here.

i am sorry .. hunting season just over here .. Jan 31

rut has started, seems to be a little later and the deer are all over the hiways and in the ditches. i wondered if it was later due to the craziness of the weather that we have been having
