Soybean meal

Soybean meal is probably not the best choice- roasted soybeans are better as they are higher in fat. Meal is higher protein/lower fat; roasted beans are lower protein/higher fat. Whatever you choose, a little can go a long way, and too much fat is bad for the rumen. The content/analysis of your current feed is crucial to know before any amounts could be suggested.

Thanks but I'm still wondering how much to put into their feed at a time

Soybean oil will do the same thing and you can just spray it on top of your feed. Works great and will help to keep any probiotics you use stuck to the feed!

I was told by a couple different guys to feed 1/4lb per head.

How much fat is to much? We are currently adding bean oil to raise the fat content in our feed.

Take the guessing out of your feed and simply feed Purina Antlermax 20 like we do. It has all of the things mentioned above in it in the proper proportions. You never have to worry about too much or too little of anything. If you have a deer or two that need to put on some weight they have a new product called Extreme Energy that is 30% fat that you can top dress or add to your feed. In addition, the extruded pellet eliminates the deer picking out the corn or certain grains. By the way, did you know that Purina patented the extrusion process? It is the same process that is used to make things like Cheetos and Cheerios.

I would be cautious on using 30% fat in whitetails . They dont have gall bladders and that high amount of fats becomes hard to processs and have to rely on bile in their system to emulsfy the fats. This high amount also becomes an intake limiter. If purina had a qualified cervid nutritionist they would know this. Its all about profit first and quality second with them, Flame roasted grains will be a better option for you as a top dresssing for your feed
