After 28 years I have just been informed that State Farm will Not any longer be able to insure me as I farm Whitetail Deer. State Farm stated that they are an Exotic and a liability. They are graciously giving me 30 days to find a new provider. Pointed out several facts such as......Deer are not even on the exotic animal list and we are on the farm census report as a farmed animal. Registered with the MDA and USDA After quite a discussion with my agent they determined it would easier to discontinue my policy and remain ignorant to the facts. Would like a few names of Agencies that others have and that provide a good service and rates. 734-320-7182 Steve

Same here had State Farm 20+ years we got deer and they DROPPED us because of it...........Kinda funny how we spend THOUSANDS to keep our deer in and my neighbors have the SHITTIEST fences in the world holding 1500 lb animals that get out and wonder the highways and country side...... But mine are a DANGER to get out and hit by a car ?

Rather hit a 200 lb deer than a 1500 lb Bull standing in the road ?

You might see if ANPAC is in your area. I was told by a friend that works there that they might cover deer if you have a few. I think it was less than ten. I need to check into that more. It at least lets me know they are tolerant of deer.

Steve: Michigan Farm Bureau Insurance will cover Deer farmers, been with them 5 years. They will insure your deer if you would like. I have not insured mine so I don't know to what degree.

Same in Illinois. Country companies (farm bureau) will ad deer to your ag policy. But you have to have 80 acres and they limit $1500 per aminal. Doesn't cover disease so it didn't help for ehd last year.

You can have just a regular home insurance and own deer but they don't insure the deer.

Thanks for the leads guys!! Wayne I know for a fact that State Farm insures people with horses and cattle. There are extremely MORE personal injuries from them. First time I went to a horse show I seen two guys walking around with broken arms. Asked what happened....They said that they didn't get their arms out of the way in time tryin' helping that stud with his aim! LMAO!!!!

Steve, that is wild that a company will simply decide to drop your coverage and be so inflexible after having been a faithful customer for so many years.

Wayne, isn't that the truth when it comes to all those big animals and crappy fences? Just this last Saturday I almost plowed into a couple goats when I came over a hill doing 55 mph. Why were the goats in the middle of the road? Well of course, because the fence they had just got out of what a POS!

Same here guys! I had been with State Farm since I was 16 years old! They dropped me as soon as I got deer! I went with Mike Keith Insurance. 660-885-5581. Fax - 660-885-8278. Email [email protected]. They have been GREAT to work with! I'm pretty sure they are members of NADEFA too!

I also had State Farm and they dropped me, went with ANPAC for awhile but found Farmers Insurance Group to be cheaper

If Farm Family is on your area I highly recommend them.

Actually, each and every one of you can/could file a complaint with your states insurance commission. If you have been insured as a deer farm, they can not cancel/non-renew your policy without cause. They must honor the policy as it is written until you cancel it or have claims/violations to give due cause. They can't just change their mind and no longer choose to have you as a customer. However, I do understand that they can raise your rates and run you off.

Good Luck to you all !!

Hello all,

If you are ever looking to insure the actual deer (i.e. the animals, not the farm), Archangel Specialty is an insurance company that has developed a new product for breeders of whitetail deer, elk, and other cervid species.  Our policies cover the animal if it dies as a result of disease (pneumonia, gastrointestinal, cancer, etc.), parasite, bacterial infection, anesthesia, accidental trauma, or if it is stolen.  Here is a link to an overview of the program:  http://archangelspecialty.com/programs/wildlife-breeders/  Note: we do exclude coverage for "government slaughter diseases" and malicious injury

Last week we launched this new product in the State of Wisconsin.  We will be rolling it out in Texas, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Ohio over the course of the next month.  If successful, we will expand into additional states.

We created this new product because our underwriter, while with her previous company, had received a lot of feedback from breeders such as yourself that felt that the marketplace was not offering adequate coverage for common causes of death.  After a thorough research process, we believe we have developed the right policy and pricing that will allow us to serve the deer breeding industry for years to come.  If you would like to learn about the coverage we offer, our toll free number is 1-800-575-9628.  If you ask for information on the "Wildlife Breeders" program you will be transferred to our underwriter.  I would also be more than happy to answer your questions on this forum.

Al Patten at Farm Credit Services of America would be a good guy to call.  Not sure if they insure deer or not, but they are a great company located in the midwest and I'm sure they would be able to help you out.
